Iphone 2G with 3.0.1 FW Unlocking Problem

    Hi Guys,

I hope Ive posted this in the right spot, if not, mods please move this to the correct location.

Ok, I purchased an iphone 2g from ebay, which was supposed to be unlocked, but have received it and it turns out to be indeed locked.

Im doing the below with the unit without a sim in it.

So, what Ive done so far is:

    1. downloaded redsn0w, along with the 3.0 official ISPW.
    2. loaded itunes 8.2 and knocked the unit into DFU mode to restore the FW to the latest (3.0.1)
    3. Loaded redsn0w 8.0 , and located the 3.0 ISPW I downloaded to jailbreak the unit.
    4. Everything has been successful so far until it tries to reboot, and it hangs. Ive read other forums where they reckon you need to take the usb out and plug it back in, but cant get the jailbreak process to finish.
    5. Ive then downloaded Redsn0w 7.2 and the exact same thing. Ive also tried this on various USB ports but to no avail.

Im hope someone more knowledgeable than I can shed some light on this process, am i missing something?

    Many Thanks in advance

    Ross.

Sorry, not familiar with the 2G, but I thought that they followed a different procedure to the 3G / 3GS?...have a look at www.iclarified.com and follow the tutorials there.

Might not make a difference but you could try to unlock with redsn0w instead, its what i used to unlock my 2g iphone.

Thanks for the replies quys, my apologies, I was referring to Redsn0w above (had typed ultrasnow for some reason, post now edited). Process seems to go fine, apart from the ipod booting midway through the jailbreak and unlock process in Redsn0w.

What operating system are you running redsn0w on? It has problems with Vista 64 bit. I had to use XP and everything went through fine then.

I had an issue with redsn0w and iPhone 2G where it would say "rebooting..." but the iPhone didn't reboot. I just unplugged the phone, then plugged it back in again and it kickstarted the process. Seems to just need a little helping hand.

I'm having the same problem with my 3GS on redsnow, the process runs fine bit it wont seem to reboot, everything else runs fine but then the status bar just stays blank. I am running it on Vista:confused:
    Any ideas?
    cheers

    Heya,

Yep, have tried Redsn0w 7.x and 8.x on XP x32, Vista x32 and Win 7 x32 and x64. Also tried taking the USB cable out and popping it back in, all to no avail :(
