anyone ever seen any of his work?

we were in an art gallery yesterday in chicago and there was a massive piece, id say 12 or 13 foot wide. from a distance we were convinced it was a photo but it was actually a painting. amazing stuff.

here is a link to another one of his pieces, similiar to what we saw but a different angle. can anyone tell me, is this a self portrait?
