    Hi,
I have a Mark Hoppus Signature Bass http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0138300357.

I wanted to get the action lowered on it so i left it in to a shop back home to do it and they did it but it was buzzing a lot. I then brought it in to musicmaker in dublin and he said that it was way too tight and it was putting a strain on the neck. Got him to "fix" it and put some new strings on it. The E-string will now not stay in tune at all.
Anybody know anywhere that i can leave it into and will fix it now?

You really should learn to do jobs like that yourself.. It's dead easy, and takes only a couple of minutes.. If you have a problem at a gig, you won't be able to call on a shop to help :)

That said, if you paid somone to do a job and its not done right.. Bring it back. I would go back into MusicMaker and complain and get them to do the job properly.

Bring it to Derrick Nelson in Marlay Park. His number is in the musical instruments sticky. :)

The E-string not staying in tune suggests that the string itself might be damaged or the string isn't holding properly on the tuning peg. Alternatively the tuning peg might be damaged or loose.

I think it might be something to do with the tuning peg. One of the nuts were the string is wrapped around seems to be raised out of the wood a little. I dont know if it was always like that or if it only happened when i left it in.
Think im just going to send it back to Thomann now to get it repaired as it is still under warranty.

Think im going to invest in a new bass now aswell. Was playing a Fender jaguar in the shop the other day and i was really liking the feel of it. Had a really low action which i like. But read online that there are loads of problems with it. Anyone any suggestions on a decent bass to get for around 1,000?

If you are patient and are willing to go second hand you will find plenty. Keep an eye on adverts. Generally speaking a Fender Precision or Jazz will cover an awful lot of ground (unless you want to play metal or fusion or something, in which case there are horses for those particular courses).

I don't know if this is stickied already but here's a setup guide from Fender just for your own future reference (might save yourself a few bucks).

As for a new bass, I have a Fender Aerodyne which you should be able to get for about e800 - e850. Make sure you get one of the later models with the strat style input jack (as on the Fender page). This is my only problem with mine, I got one of the early models with the jack on the side and because the body of the bass is radiused the washers would loosen and then the jack would come loose every few gigs - super glue fixed that though. I've had that bass for years, gigged a lot with it and you can get a lot of great tones out of it.

For a change of "scenery" I bought an Ibanez SR500 a few weeks ago. It's light weight, has a great sound, very easy to play and cost around e550.
