ok i bought a samsung nc10 notebook and so did the girlfriend , yesterday we tried out windows messenger and did a video call and the picture and sound was very good almost perfect but the version we were using was messenger 4.1 or something so to keep up to date i updated the two machines to the 8.1 version 2009 and now the pic quality ant as good today and the sound is very distorted like im taking to a robot type of thing ,,

i tried going tru the audio and visual setting but didnt seem to get anywhere its very annoying as the point of getting these was to be able to talk over our broadbands without needing to use mobile phones \

anyone ever had this problem before that can advise me \????

There might be a possability that it naturally uses a higher end codec and if you're connection is somewhat slow it lags the whole thing down so it makes it worse. Can't say i know how to fix it but there are alternatives.

    Skype for one is great
For a little more work you could try teamspeak or ventrilo (both are run as voice servers so you'll need to find a free one/host one/rent one yourself)
If all else fails just uninstall it and install the previous version.

Should be able to find a the version you're looking for here. If not just go to the messenger section and look for msn messenger or windows messenger
