Why would anyone want an Orion?

That yoke is bound to be the next piano receptacle on topgear ...once they run out of Morris Marinas :D

As with Volvoboy, I feel the same way about many VW's, but I don't go on about it.

That Orion though is class looking. Wouldn't mind it, although it's a bit too dear.

    A bargain?

At least the VRT is based on the OMSP, which is zero. So you should only pay the minimum VRT rate ;)

    think corky is joking!

    Really? :p

Each to their own, as we usually and gentlemanly agree to, but maybe we should start to cater for exceptions for truly sh1te cars?

^ Just because it isn't a Porsche or a BMW means it's shíte does it?

nothing wrong with an Orion ..its just an escort with a boot....and mk3 to 6 escorts are getting very popular now...im off in my 2000 model in a few mins...i'll post a photo later...

My father bought one new when just out, a 1.3 GL. It replaced a Fiat SuperMirafiori.

I remember the "joystick" for redirecting the sound through the speakers, and I remember a set of Lucas 20-20's on the front (with 100w bulbs I found out later) IIRC, the only trouble it gave was a clutch cable snapping in deepest West Cork.

Oh ya, the Ford spotlight mount brackets are still in the garage at home....

no, it just means it's in the same class of shoyte as these jokes

    800px-Vw_derby_2_h_sst.jpg
    216928.jpg

i.e. cars that had a clever design and quite a bit of flair in their original form ....and then somebody went and stuck a square boot on it and ruined it all, just so that they wouldn't offend the smallminded customer who'd never buy a car without "a proper boot"

There is no such thing as a minimum VRT rate anymore... But the VRO seem to think that every car is worth at least €2k... calculate VRT @ 36% (i doubt if emissions are known for this thing) and you have an extra €720 on top of your "bargain" €1950. Add a bit of money for plates, a test and you're talking €2750... for an Orion... Seriously...

I genuinely like the Orion. The Mk 4 Escort was nicer inside than either the Mk 3 or the Mk 5 (and yes, I have been in one).

Back when this car was new, people would have sniggered at small Fords from the Fifties, but now 103E's and the like are (unfortunately - :D) seen as classics. Just give the Orion a little time...

With a bit of luck, there won't be any left when that time comes

I've a soft spot for the Orion, but only because of the number of parties I went to in the back of one.
