I'm trying to find a last minute sun holiday for a couple of weeks time for myself and the BF. We're looking for somewhere with pretty decent weather and a nice hotel. I can get all inclusive in the Sultan Club, Ozdere, Izmir, Turkey for unbeliveably cheap amount (€600).

Never been to Turkey before so I'm just trying to find out if people would recommend it. When on holidays we enjoy relaxing by the pool, having nice food and a wander around town in the evenings for a few drinks.

The hotel got pretty good reviews on Trip Advisor but haven't been able to find out much about the area.

Has anyone been to this resort or this hotel and if so would you recommend it?? Is Turkey nice in general. Would hate to end up in a really tacky joint like you see on "Ibiza Uncovered" type programmes.

I went to Turkey once and it wasn't great. I felt people were haggling me all the time. Being a woman, I thought the men were looking at me to the point of being uncomfortable. Food is nice, but find a clean place. Check toilets - this is usually a good sign.

But, if all you're looking to do is stay in the hotel all inclusive, at a cheap price, and laze around the pool, it will will do. Then it's just down to whether you like the hotel.

I have been to Turkey half a dozen times. Not Izmir, instead near Bodrum, but I do not have a bad word to say about it. I am male so did not have guys checking me out but a few times I was with my sister, and while she got plenty of attention, she never felt uneasy. In fact I think she is still in touch with some of the waiters from the resort on her mybook/facespace etc.

The food is excellent, as is general service. There is a bit of haggling needed when buying things, but sellers are not as harassing like in Morroco.

Cant fault turkey. Try it I am sure you will love it.

I love Turkey. Been to Kusadasi, which is about an hour from Izmir, twice and hoping to go back next year. It's full of restaurants, cheap drinks and fake handbags and leather goods. Food is cheap and wide variety. There's also a nice cultural element to Turkey, you've got places like Ephesus and Pamukkale to visit. I'd recommend it. Just watch out for the pushy shopkeepers.

I was there once in 2002 and hated every second of it.. I was in Kusadasi and it was filthy, everything about it was dirty, even the air was dirty, if you left your towel out to dry it would come back in dirty.. the water was yellow, I know you're not supposed to drink the tap water when you're away and all that but you still like to have a shower in clean water.. And as someone else ^ said, you get haggled everywhere you go, they try to physically pull you into their shops and restaurants.. We ended up getting into an arguement with one waiter who wouldn't stop hassling us to go in and eat in his bar.. Very very annoying..

However, we did take a day trip out to Bodrum and it looked a lot different.. Not as poverty stricken and just a more cheerful place..

As I said it's been years since I was there so maybe it's changed, but I'd never go back, not to Kusadasi anyway..

I'm only back from Marmaris - I loved it. When reading reviews I didn't want to go in the end, but it was excellant. There were no sleezy men and everyone in our group of 16 enjoyed themselves!

i love love love turkey! everything is cheap, its not as touristy as spain, the weather is really hot, and the people are really friendly. (the haggling has now lessened as they are not allowed to be too pushy as it is against new laws that were brought in.) def go for it, as for dates turkey is pretty much hot hot all the time so it shouldnt really matter.

Turkey isn't hot all year round! It does get very cold there during the winter months!!
I love Turkey, have been to Bitez, Bodrum and Kusadasi a few times and I do love going back! Yes it can get annoying when people try drag you into bars & restaraunts but all the great thinks about Turkey make up for that!!
Peak season is between June and September, although you can go there still in May and October it can be quiet and some places in the tourist areas don't even open!! I just remember that the waterpark wasn't open while we were there and I was very disapointed!!!! :o

i would reccomend bitez in turkey- really nice quiet resort & you are still very near gumbet/bodrum. They are a bit pushy but just ignore them. Definetely go to ephesus & pammukale- amazing.
