Anyone see that tv show last night about the guy who invented the bale shears that holds onto plastic and nett? Tanco were interested in producing it, handy looking tool but pretty pricey at about 4k I thought, plus you still have to seperate nett and plastic afterwards I guess, anyone ever see one i action?

Great idea, especially good for older farmers feeding a lot of bales. No getting up & down from tractors. It just looked like a small hydraulic pincher that gripped the plastic and netting.
It should be possible to modify existing graps by adding this!:o

ya looked like the pincher wont open till the grab is full open so maybe its a mechanical thing linked to rams already present in grab

Don't know when that programme was filmed and didn't see it, but Tanco had what sounds to be the same machine on their stand at one of the grassland shows in the UK a couple of months ago. Presumably a deal was done and it has gone into production.

One would buy a lot of Stanley blades for €4k
Whats wrong with cutting the plastic before you pick it up on the required amount of bales we need the exercise look at the physical condition of most farmers in your local mart this week and tell me I am wrong ?
I think we are losing the plot here €4k could be better spent on most farms in my opinion
I wish there was a margin in the business that would allow such accessories
Time saving yes but no I dont know any non dairy or pig farmer who hasnt time to lean across the 5 bar gate and chat
BTW good luck to the inventor and hope he makes a fortune but even at half that price I would not be swayed

Agreed! You need to be feeding an awful lot of bales to justify €4k for this thing. And if you feeding such an amount of bales in the firest place, you should probably be doing pit silage to control the cost in such a low margin business.

Must be a fit thing yourself, running around with a hay knife and pitch fork, lashing out all that grub to the stock, and pole vaulting over the fat farmers talkin ****e at your 5 bar gate on your way back to the house

Fair play to you you have an active mind I can just about visualise the scene
No I let the cattle do the forking and I agree totally in these times the pits the only answer to large volume
On the physical side that wrap isnt as effective for keeping up the trousers as the baler twine

You still have to get off to take the plastic off the grab before the next bale. it would take only a little extra time to cut the plastic with a stanley blade before you take the bale into the shed. How many times would it fail to hold the plastic? €4000 would go a long way towards a reasonably good round baler.

true there is probly a way u could make an attachment to a bale spikethat would hold plastic and net if u cut the wrap first before feeding the bales moast time the plastic comes back with spike after dropping bale anyway and if u rattle the bale u dont need the spliter
