    Hey folks,

As some of you know, I undertook a full restoration of my Mercedes in 5 weeks. I'd never welded or painted before, so it was interesting to say the least. I also work 50+ hours a week, so it was a hard pull on my time.

How it was 2 weeks into the work:

It had done about 50 miles in the last 7 years, 48 of those this side of the water (I imported it in November), before I undertook a 642 roundtrip to the UK last weekend. I'm happy to say it made it, although I have to look at the rear axle now as there is a bad leak.

    Some pics now:

Might not be to everyones taste, but I love it.

Now all I have left to do is a W116, W123 & 2 Minis before I can buy another car :D

I sprayed the bits I welded. Paint match isn't amazing, but it's ok. Rest of the bodywork t-cutted back beautifully. Pity I got it finished at the end of the show season!

The w116 is just a light resto - needs a bit of welding, steering & electrics work. Mostly going to be chasing the wiring around with a multimeter and replacing bushes!

I'm looking for some period AMG alloys and a small drop perhaps. The wheels on the Merc are period Lorinser alloys, so I like to keep it in the family!

Looks elegant and yet thuggish. Very cool, in the true spirit of a Hot-Rod.

Of course I'm going to say I prefer the original looks, but it certainly does look very well, and cleaned up very well indeed !

It does look hot-rod ish doesn't it, what is it a 230 ?

Any pics of the W116 ?

Thanks for all the kind words, I'm delighted with how it turned out.

    hi5 -

MercMad - it's a 230.4 yeah. I wouldn't say it was a hotrod! All I've done is lower the suspension, and fit Lorinser alloys! My way of looking at it is that there are loads of standard w115s out there, especially in white and I have what I want! There's only 56k on the clock with history too.

    Here's the w116:

What was that car meet you were at - I notice a lowered, fat-wheeled green Polo there too ?

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
