There's some courses that you can get through with nothing more than common sense. Pharmaceutical Science is not one of those courses. I'd highly advise you not to accept a course in which you have no real interest. You need a real aptitude for the science subjects and an interest in the field. Accepting a course for the sake of it is just going to lead to problems down the road, the worst of which is when you stumble and struggle your way into third year and wonder why you ever accepted in the first place!

hi firstly thanks for the reply
sorry but maybe i should have said aswell that while i do have a huge intrest in science, it is only outdone by an interest in computers which is why i was slightly disapointed as my first choice was a computer course i needed at least a B3 in math and i only got a C2..noone's fault but my own .
ok you see the reason i was sounding like i didnt care is becuase I am fearful i will well and truely be out of my depth as i didnt do a science subject for the leaving.
although i did do it at junior cert level and got a B in higher level i feel that this grade means nothing.
although for the past year i have been reading through the leaving cert biology book and course... i have never done any excercises just a mere flick page by page.
so now im stuck feeling that although i will strive to succeed if i like the course i will still be a huge disadvantage as the rest of the class will have done a science subjuct for the leavig.

ok i guess what im saying is do i have a chance of doing well in this course in my situation and once again thanks for the reply

i have a few friends doing it they find it tough going, u do math, physics, bio, chem, in first 2 semesters (both courses ord & degree are mixed for 1st year as far as i know), wait for 2nd round, and also alot of colleges have places left at the end which they'll show on CAO

I know someone who did this course and it seemed to be tough enough. ya'd need a seriously driving passion or a natural aptitude for it.....heard the drop out rates for this course are pretty spectacular too. id say wait it out, why settle?

It's going to be a learning curve for you if you never did a science subject for the leaving. If you have such a passion for science why didn't you do some for the leaving? Of course you have a chance of doing well as long as you put the work in

Don't do it, will turn out to be a waste of time and money

Hi Op I will be doin the same course in Sept in WIT. All Ill say is that I did biology in the leavin and got an a1...but the course itself starts from scratch. If you put in the time and hard work which some people are afraid to do then you will be fine.I've been to college before and found the course i did exercise&health to be a waste of time, hence why i dropped out as employment prospects stink. How can a person say this course is a waste of time.Ireland is developing into a knowledge economy where smart people in specialised fields are required. Long story short you wont be the only one feelin vulnerable and what not,put in the hard graft and do a real course:)

It'll be a waste of time when they realise 1/2/3 years down the line that they should have held out for their first choice and packs the course in.... i've seem people drop out of college in the final months of 4th year simply because they never really wanted to be a....pharmacist, accountant, lawyer...etc
