Hi guys, the screen on my Dell Inspiron 9400 recently stopped working( the backlight is gone).

As a temporary solution I am using a dell screen plugged into my laptop. However as soon as I plugged it in it is working as addition desktop space rather than a replacment for the laptop screen, which is what i want.

I have tried tweeking the settings but is is proving incredibly frustrating with the primary screen being blank.
Is there a way to make the second monitor the only screen?
    any help appreciated,
    thanks;)

Normally laptops have a Fn - 4 or 5 or 6 key combination to cycle through the screen types.

    It's normally somehting like

Press it once - clone to second screen
Press it again - use first and second screen together
Press it again - replace laptop screen with monitor.

Look for the symbol over your keys of two monitors (or two squares) then try hitting Fn & that key a few times. Wait a couple of seconds between each press before trying again as it can take a few seconds to refresh.

Edit: Actually it might be Fn & F8 on that model.

    Thats great man,

I got it after a few goes of Fn+F8.

Thanks for the help and the prompt response.
