An awful lot off cctv works over 3g but its a gimick really and nobody actively promotes it as its flakey. When you say 3g do you mean on a handset or on a 3g card on a netbook??

Plan was to fit an IP camera to a remote location connected to wireless broadband, (vodafone etc) and access via internet on laptop or pc.
    Any suggestions appreciated. thanks.

I'm not too sure about this but I think the main problem is that all mobile broadband users from one provider share the same IP and the connection is routed using NAT. < I just read that somewhere else btw>

This means that other computers can't actually uniquely identify your computer on the web therefore you can't run a webserver on it and thats how IP cameras work AFAIK.

I could be wrong, im sure somebody will confirm/correct this.

The other issue is that 3g is very very flakey. I dont think the units are designed to be on all the time. Ive had problems with one over heating...

Techguy might be right too there is a NAT issue.. is this remote sight miles away from your premises?

Same here, i've noticed that sometime mine will overheat if I download a few large files, after which it won't recognise the sim for a while until it cools down again..

I just know that if I look up Jim Google i'll find some guy that has stuck an oversized heatsink onto it

Would it work to have Fixed Line Broadband and a Wireless Router ensuring a wireless connection is available.
You could then use a camera along the lines of this one http://webapps.easy2.com/cm2/flash/generic_outline_index.asp?page_id=35834750 to connect to the wireless network.
You then have the option of recording the images from the camera to a Hard Drive and also setup a Web Application so
that the images can be captured via the internet...
    Would this work??
