just wondering has anyone any info on these cars?

there extremely rare in Ireland from what I can but is that because of the high tax bracket or because there not great cars?

I'm talking about the 3 litre turbo 4WD versions.

    good power?
    good handling?
    any major problems?

a step up, sideways or down from an Integra Type R?

Was my favourite car in Gran Turismo 1!

Always liked them, especially the Mk1. Very rare though, there is a red one knocking around Galway for years.

I think the main complaint with GTO at the time was that all the onboard advanced technology ruined the car for the driver.

Might be worth looking at the Nissan 300ZX or Toyota Supra as these were better executed than the GTO. There is also a better choice.

would you get either in really good condition for €7k though bazz?

i'd say the majority of them here would be grey imports, with no certain past.....

I've had a GTO and the only problem with the car is it's size... it's bloody huge and not great at all for small roads. It handled well and it looked good but I got the Alfa GTV after the GTO and it's lighter, quicker and you feel more involved as a driver even though it's not 4WD.

Also, parts for the GTO are a pain to come by easily!

I was looking at GTOs and 300ZXs at the same time. Both are big, have serious amounts of power, and are devastatingly fast in a straight line. GTO is a safer bet being 4WD. One 300ZX I drove was kicking the back out at 60mph in 4th.

Try one (or more) out. Not in the same basket as your ITR at all.

It's definitely an interesting alternative. I'd love a spin in one, I've often pondered ownership, as you can get reasonably clean ones for very little and exceptionally clean ones are still somewhat affordable. It'll take a long time to sell one, I'd imagine from reports that they're a little cumbersome on the road, but should grip well and you'll have lots of power.
A Supra would be far superior, but I've yet to see a mint Supra that I'd buy in the UK or here. They're all either modified, worn out or both. Either way they're three times the price of a GTO, or 3000GT as they were known in official UK import terms!
(I'm talking only about the twin turbo in both models, auto and non-turbo models don't get considered!)

And an NSX would be better again and an RX-7 TT is an interesting alternative, but when I was looking at these kind of cars a few years ago the 300ZX and GTO were by far the best in terms of bhp for your €

Go look at a few. If you bought one your ar$e and back would thank you for it, but your wallet would probably feel some pain in terms of running costs (Irish road tax, fuel, and potentially expensive repairs).

rx7 tt is the car I want unfortunately €7k is too tight a budget to get a clean one

All of the turbo versions of these types of cars (supra, GTO and 300zx) are going to need a serious amount of expensive maintenance at this stage. I reakon tho that the GTO would be the most expensive to put right and specialists would be hard to find.

The supra is probably twice the price as the 300zx to buy. Of the three i'd go to a 300zx owners club and buy the best one I could. But then I already own a Datsun:D

they seem to be a more complicated, less good looking Supra.

If you're going to tax a 3L why not get an E36 m3, 7k would buy a nice one?

Either that or a R33 Skyline GTS-t, that would have reasonable (for Irl) tax and the engine in them isn't that tempremental.

For me with Skylines it's either a GTR or don't bother.

In an ideal world yes but they're twice as expensive to buy and they need more maintenance.

Some of the lesser versions are still quick cars and are probably a lot more controlable than a 300zx.

I wouldnt be a fan of skylines unless i went the whole hog for a gtr

    how about GT4's?

That's an example of the rough or spoiled examples of the Supras that exist.
The 3000GT in the above post is an example of how a car like that should be presented.

I dont want alternatives to the gto lads sorry, I was just offered a 00 one at very cheap price so asked about them.

alternatives to the Integra at €7k would be helpful, i'm lost at the minute and it would seem keeping the Integra would be a better option?

I had no idea what this car was when I started reading (was going to read all the posts before the google!) but 3000GT's are class. However they are quite old and a their power will have dropped quite a bit by now (especially if they havent been regularly serviced). I was told this by an owner I got chatting to a a petrol station (so obviously I dont know how reliable that is!)

I think you should keep the dc2 fella. You simply wont get the same fun factor and practicality all in one package with anything else in that money range. Ive owned an rx7 and have a gtr as my weekend car and could never drive them every day for as cheaply as the dc5.

The dc2 is good on juice and cheap to maintain, tax is fine and insurance is not so bad once you're older. It has a large boot and looks decent enough (to people who are into their cars anyway!). You wont get all these things plus the fun factor with any other car out there in the market in your price range.

My advice. Either stick to the dc2. Save for a dc5 (trust me its a nice step up once modified) or buy an rx7 but get a bangor as your daily runaround like i did with my skyline for 18 months before getting the dc5.

If the GTO is clean, original and cheap, go for it. Something different.
