I've just registered for this coming year and saw this .I thought this years applicants were getting away without fees?.I at least expected something in the media about this

I've looked around and the general answer was they weren't in this year.Mods move/delete this if I'm being a bit thick about this

Having a quick glance at that they seem to believe that you are from the EU and not Ireland.

You probably filled out the forms wrong.

lol, yeah, fees are definitely not in this year. The government hasn't even made an official decision to bring them in yet. Mine are subtracted as "HEA free fees funding".

Get on to Administrative Services, the Fees and Grants section immediately.

    Do you have a passport?

I'm having the exact same problem, the administration phone line is not helpful in the slightest.

Same thing here, double checked the details cant see anything wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,900 ✭✭✭✭Riskymove

I agree, there's no way the Govt would allow letters like that out without making any announcement on a decision

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 908 ✭✭✭Overature

i got the exact same bill, im going back now to see if i have made some mistake. i really hope i have

yes,All my details say that myself and my parents are from Mayo.No mention of anything Eu related at all.I've a fair idea how to filll out the forms and all my details are correct

Yeah I got it too, gosh I nearly freaked out

I had a gander at it there, that's messed up. I'm pretty sure the fees don't come in till next year. But again it's UCD and clerical errors (like this) are frequent, especially with regards registration etc...

Does anyone know why I can't register for any modules either? It just says Phase 2 is not available.

that's not open yet.It open for under grads on the 24th/27th of August I think[have to check the dates]Its not for a few days anywho

Remember:We don't have to pay registration etc. until the 8th of September I highly recommend not paying anything of your fees for a few days until this is sorted out,We could be overcharged for a simple error. So,chill and don't go on any murderous rampages.........yet ;)

    Just been on to UCD.

Apparently the tuition fees are deducted later on. Advising just to continue on and pay the €1657.50

So it's UCD's fault, scaring the ... out of poor 1st year students :p. Hopefully it will be sorted out quickly :o

Logon onto your SIS Account !! :) it says DEAR CAO STUDENTS, DON'T WORRY, YOU SEE FULL FEES FOR THE COURSE AND IF YOU'RE ELIGIABLE FOR FREE FEES YOU'LL SEE AN ADJUSTMENT BLA BLA BLA

    Panic over =D

Good, I shouted the house down when I saw that figure.

Is this affecting 1st-years only? I'm in 3rd year now, and SIS is already showing the tuition fees as covered by the HEA, leaving only the usual registration & service fees. I'm not seeing any increase on last year - whew!

It may not be that simple after all

according to the Times, students are being shown what the fees for the course are now so that if they are introduced next year there is less likely to be legal challenges...crazy stuff

I'm so confused now...the fees showing up for my course are huge!! How do I no if I'm eligible for the Free Fees thing? When will that show up on your account?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 884 ✭✭✭ya-ba-da-ba-doo

Yeah i just paid the 1670.50 or whatever it was

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 bfc

Riskymove - I think that's just a coincidence. I don't think it's related to the Irish Times article at all.

Flicking through this thread here, and having been through UCD, you might just consider this - there's a possibility that the 1650eur is your registration fee for the year and has to be paid (unless you have a grant I presume). If the figure you're all falling off your chairs over is around 3000,-5000eur, depending on the course you're doing, that's the fee that's covered by the Government.
Registration fees increasing are just a stealth way for the college to make money while not "charging fees".
Don't quote me on that, but I've a sister in 4th yr in UCD aswell, and she did say her registration fee this year would be around 1500eur.

Mine has been fixed btw, just got it paid by the HEA or whatever.

I think it just takes them a while to get around to it.

I'm having the opposite problem, I'm going in as a mature student and got the Free fees before so I shouldn't be eligble for them again but it's saying I only have to pay the registration fee.

By any chance is there a 5 year difference between when you finished college before (assuming you didn't get a qualification)? If so you may indeed be eligible for 'free fees'.

    I didn't get a qualification alright but there's only a 3 or 4 year difference afaik.

edit - actually I think it was 5 years this year.

    Hey guys,

I'm in NUIG, and our fees are always put up like in the photo, but we only pay the ~1500euro, and the rest is claimed back by the university from the exchequer in February.

Anybody know why we are paying the student centre levy? I thought it should just be the 1500 registeration fee?
