Dead Macbook help!!

Hey there hoping someone might be able to help me out here.
Was using my white Macbook (early 2008), I had it running on battery power, anyway I tried to shut it down and went through the steps but kept coming back to the log in screen. At first i thought that I had clicked on log out by mistake. But by the third time it came up, I knew I hadn't.
So probably stupidly I removed the battery to shut it down. I put the battery back in almost straight away and paid it no more attention.
Later that night, I plugged the Macbook back into the power adaptor and noticed that the green light on the connection was a lot lighter than usual, but assumed it was something to do with me removing the battery.
Anyway got up this morning, no light on the adaptor at all and Macbook is dead, won't do a thing.
I followed the steps on the apple website and still nothing, I even rang the apple customer support (of course I'm about two months out of the 12 month warrenty) and they got me to do all the same things again as the website did, but still no go.
Anyone have any ideas or help that will let me get my Macbook back up and running. Please and thank you.

    I assume you tried this?

Well if Apple guided you through the usual steps, something has most likely failed. Hopefully just the adapter. Is it a magsafe adapter? They fail quite a bit. Unless pulling the battery caused more harm - like blowing the DC-in board or worse.

Was the Macbook low on battery when you plugged it in last night? Did you test the Macbook after pulling/replacing the battery?

Never pull the battery like that. If you need to force a shutdown, press and hold the power key.

Hey Sad Professor, thanks for the reply. I know now, I shouldn't have pulled the battery out like that. I did try to force shut down by pressing power button, but it just went in a loop of coming back on at the log in screen which was happening when I tried to shut it down the normal way.
There was a fair bit of charge left in the battery, even now I can do the battary level check on the bottom of the Macbook and there are three of the five lights lit on it.
I only tried to turn it back on this morning and it just sits there not a stir out of it.

Just a quick update, thanks again for the reply from sad professor. Left my Macbook into Galmac in Galway last week, it turned out it was only two months out of the 12 month warrenty.
After not getting much shift from the first person I spoke to from Apple, the suggested I call them back again because it was so soon out of the 12 months. I rang back and they agreed to fix the problem as it was a hardware one for no charge (good news for me) and all it cost me was a small charge for a courier to drop it back to me from Galmac. Just wanted to say that the people in Galmac were very helpful and I would recommend them to anyone in the future if you ever had any problems with your Mac in future..

    Glad you got sorted.

Is it back and all? Did you find out what was the problem?

Not back yet, got a call from them in Galmac this morning to say it was sorted and just wanted me to pay for the cost of the courier to send it back to me. Will have it in the morning.
Don't know what was wrong with it, I'm sure they'll have some sort of documentation to say what was done. They were quite surprised themselves when i brought it in first, they tried to hook it up to a brand new power adapator and that didn't even light up when they plugged it in. They reckoned it was some kind of massive hardware malfunction, (I think probably caused by me popping out the battery). I left it with them and they checked over it, when i was speaking to apple they said once it was confirmed by them as a hardware issue, they'd cover it.

I wonder if they had to replace the whole logic board. If so, you were very lucky to get it repaired outside of warranty.
