Have you seen the new Bulmers TV adverts. It's all about having to make cuts, the ad says at the end that the only cuts we have had to make is the price. Have they not cut jobs in Clonmel? Thought it was bit cheeky to start taking about only cuts they had made was the price when they have left people go.

They were voluntary redundancies and half of them were management.

From the link above: "Two years ago, Bulmers employed more than 600 workers, but a downturn in the sale of cider had seen that number reduced to 417 by this month."

Almost a third of their work force. That's a big cut.

They cut their workforce last autumn/winter by roughly 170, around 70 of those were temp workers. The others were permanent as far as I know. All employees had to take a new contract as far as I know.

The great news is that production has picked up and they were in the position to offer contracts to the employees they had laid off previously, at reduced pay and with different conditions obviously. One guy I know was gone out to Australia to look for a job out there. Got the call, there was nothing doing out there and he came back. They treat the employees very well in fairness, loads of benefits and good salaries.

They let all their truck drivers go a while back, and made all their reps reapply for their jobs and left a lot of them go too.
