...this newly-established small amp trend? The 5 watt, all-valve, class A combo billed as perfect for the recording studio? It seems a few 15 watters are employing all manner of power soakage or attenuation to provide a low-output option. A few spring to mind -the epi valve junior, fender champion 600, Blackstar HT5, Vox AC4TV, Orange AD5...

So what's the verdict? I've used a few and I like them alot, though with some only sporting one or two controls, a few pedals and some post-processing go a long way. What do you guys think? Will you be swapping them for your 4 x 12s any time soon?

It's not that new a trend really ....

I recall an interview with Whatsisface from Aerosmith maybe 10 years ago and all he used was smaller amps recording.

Neil Young would be a small amp guy too ...

    Joe Perry or Brad Whitford?

As for Neil...hmm....I wouldn't call a Fender tweed Deluxe with a 12' speaker all that small...15 watt output yeah?

    Joe !

Neil's amp is small in relation to most live amps.

The Deluxe was considered a beginners amp at the time !

I have a 2 watt Matamp head which is good.

I also have a 18 watt Marshall clone which is a monster !!

I guess it varies so. Doesn't the deluxe reverb come in around 17 watts too? What do you run the Matamp through?

Don't know much about Deluxes to be honest.

The amps go through a Matamp 1x12

Now I think of it Joe who owns Nutshed is a great rock guitar player who will be at the show .

John Colohan from Galway (who used to tour in Michael Flatley's band and has an SSL Matrix based studio ) will be at it too.
He's a proper guitar players guitar player and is always chopping and changing gear.

He'll be a great man to quiz as will our own Seizertisch (or how ever he spells it!)
