Voluntarily Leaving a Contract

First off - hope this hasn't been asked & answered numerous times. I had a look and this particular question doesn't seem to have been.

I was on the dole for 4 months at the start of the year. I got a 3 month contract, and then that was extended for another 3 months. This second contract runs til the end of Sept. If I were to leave the contract at the end of this month (1 month early), would that disqualify me from the dole. If I showed them my second contract and they asked why am I unemployed seen as the contract says the contract runs to the end of Sept?

Would they be looking for a letter confirming I was let go, seen as my contract hadn't yet expired.

Any ideas would be great to hear.

They wouldn't ask your for your contract, just your P45 and the reason your job ended. If you left your contract voluntarily, you will have to write a statement stating why your job ended. They will also send your employer a form which asks them why your job ended. If you left voluntarily you can be disqualified from claiming for up to 9 weeks.

    Thanks for the reply Carol.

Another scenario...say I do stay til the end of my current contract. Am offered a further contract extension but choose not to accept it. Does that come into play? Would the social welfare people find out about that? Would the employer be asked something like that?

just ask your employer not to renew the contract
