i have a problem with my psp that im hooping one of you can solve. when i try to save any sega games on it, it says that there is insufficient space on the card to save a game. i looked around other sites, and found that this happens when a card doesnt have magicgate. the thing is, i checked my card and it does have it

    anyone have any ideas?

Could be that you got a fake memory stick or your stick is just full.

its not fake. when i check the information on the card it says that magicgate is 'supported'. and the stick is a 4gb with absolutely nothing on it

Happened to me before with an 8gig memory stick, and subsequently stopped reading it! Grrr.

Right, take everything off the stick and on to your machine. Format the stick and try to put it back on.

Also I know this is a given, you're sure that there's room on the stick to put stuff on to it? Sorry, have to ask this. It's like turning the machine off and on to make it work again. :D

the stick is completely empty, it shows as having 3806mb left on it.

just formatted it now, but stil no joy. still shows as having 3806mb left, and it still wont save game file with only 192kb of memory.

i read around in other forums, and it seems this always happens with fake cards and sega games (which make up the majority of my collection). but my card has magicgate, so it cant be fake, can it?

Yeah, gotta admit that's very strange! Where did you get the stick? I've a few Sandisk ones that haven't given me any gyp! Hmm. Try format it both ways. By the PC and/or by using the psp's format option.

Can the card read converted movies or photos or mp3s?

i got it off a mate of mine, not sure where he got it

i dont know how to convert it on my pc

i don't know about videos, music or photos, but i just downloaded 3 psp demos onto my ps3, and transferred them over to the card, and it worked perfectly

Just because it says it is magicgate, it could still be fake. Though it does not sound good that you cannot put a 192kb file on it

Ok. Hook up the card to the pc - take EVERYTHING off it and put it on a folder on your desktop or anywhere you want.

Right click on the psp drive in My Computer and format.

BTW I cannot be held responsible if the card stops working due to any of my pointers. I mean if it does feck up then the card was at fault all along.

What firmware do you have installed on the PSP?

I believe older versions of C[ustom]FW and O[fficial]FW don't support larger mem sticks too well. Maybe a firmware upgrade may fix the issue.

I had a similar(ish) problem with a cheap ebay memory stick. couldn't get psx games working. solved it with proper mspro stick. anyway when i deleted a 500mb eboot from the memory stick, either through pc or psp the file would not show anymore but the space on the stik did not free up. formatting was the only way to fix this (which I had to do after i had deleted so many files but the stick still thought it was full). i had a few other problems too but all are solved now with new stick. I'm on 5.00m33-6.

How are you so sure you have magicgate? what check have you done.

i know it has magicgate because when i click triangle when the icon is over the card, and bring up the 'information', it says "MagicGate(TM): Supported

also, can i just say, thanks to everyone who has tried to help so far. im sure you al have better things to do than to help out an idiot like me, so your help really is appreciated.

keep them good ideas coming :)

what about other file types? try and see if you can get an mp3 onto the card and play it on the psp.

If you format the card in pc it will be blank but if you format it in the psp it will be formatted with the default psp folder structure ie DRIVE\PSP\GAME etc..

try format through pc as FAT and FAT32 is there any difference.

If you transferred files from PS3 to PSP this suggests a problem on the PC end of things rather than the card itself. Are you using a card reader or the usb connection on PSP?
