Bringing a 13 week old puppy to a show?

Hi, I have a 13 week old puppy who i want to bring to a local show for socialisation etc. I want to show her next year properly and would love for her to get a bit of experience this summer before all the local shows are over. I know 6 months is the youngest age a puppy can enter a puppy show, would it be really bad to say she was 6 months even though shes only over 3? Obviously she would look like a runt of the breed but other than that is there any other reasons why she shouldn't be shown?

Personnally i think it would be a bad idea...at that age i feel the dog is neither mentally or phsyically mature enough to deal with the stress of a show.

While its a good idea to mix the dog and get it socialised, it really still is only a baby. I think you would be putting a lot of stress on the pup.

I could be wrong, but thats just my opionion.

Have you any experience in showing? The judges will know that the pup is not of age as they know what they are talking about. I show rottweilers with my boyfriend and someone tried to enter a 4 month old in the puppy class and was asked to leave. The pup is very young and should only be socialised at this stage. There is a reason why they have to be 6 months old. Right now your pup should be having fun and learning.Take him and enjoy the show and learn more about it.There is plenty of time:D

Agree with the others, your pup is too young for that type of thing. I thought you meant at first just to bring the pup along to socialise, but to lie and enter it? Could get you banned from entering again. And the judges are old pros at this, they'll know somethings not right.

Personally no I wouldn't enter a pup that's too young, you don't know what/if any type of stress you may put it under

    Agree with the others.

However if you want to bring the pup along for the day not for showing but just to expereince being around lots of people and other dogs that's good for young pups. As long as a pup is fully vaccinated and if the pup gets tired you have somewhere quiet for the pup to sleep then having the puppy socialising with lots of people over the next couple of months will really stand to her in the long run.

If you do want to show her in the future then the shows you attend as a visitor with the pup will help provide you with more info. on what to do and how to etc. Perhaps joining a breed club etc.

There's also puppy socialisation classes going on around the country which are great for basic obedience etc. just make sure it's a trainer who uses humane methods only.

Plus, surely you'd need to show his papers at some stage.... which would surely state his date of birth?

Thanks guys, originally it was purely for socialisation that I would be bringing her for, then I thought if I was already there, then what the hell. I agree though that it would be too much for her when you think about it so I'll leave her for a few months.

If its an IKC champ show then dogs under 6 months of age arent allowed onto the grounds for a start.
You cant enter a dog under 6 months unless its a breed club show which sometimes have classes for baby puppy 4-6months, but IKC All breed shows are always 6 months.

To enter a show you will need its paper and registration details so you wouldnt be able to enter a 3 month old dog anyway. (why you want to lie about it is beyond me anyway, your dog is only a baby)
