Am I the only person in the world who likes winter?

It occurred to me last night as I was lying in bed, sweating, that I'm kind of looking forward to winter. I'm sure I'll be sick of it by January when it gets bitterly cold and depressing but by then you are thinking of what to do with your summer!

I kind of like the feeling of getting into the house when its miserable out, you get to sit down with a cup of tea and your dinner, heating on, walking around in shorts and tshirt looking out at the rain and high winds, cosy as a mother f*cker....

I also think teh wimmins can look great in winter, the furry coats with high boots underneath the end of it.... gets you guessing whats underneath...

Anyway, am I alone in this?

Its also a time when you can leave the windows open and not get bothered by insects.

Only downside for me is the early evenings.

    Not at all,

There are a couple of whitish bears in the pheonix park that are right there with you - everyone else thinks your'e as mad as a giraffe wearing dark glasses trying to get into a penguins only nite club.

Simple answer. No your not alone in this.

I love the variation in the seasons in Ireland. I love the winter, the days getting shorter and christmas to look forward to and the change in the leaves in Autumn. But similarly in Winter I look forward to the days getting longer again and warming up. I thinks its really nice to have such a difference through out the year. I currently live in Abu-Dhabi and there is only and hours difference betweeen summer days and winter days. The coolest it gets in winter here is 35 c on average. So when in Ireland I love experiencing the weather and differing seasons as apposed to one season here...

I love winter! Christmas, stormy nights by the fire, curled up with the boyf, watching all the shows that have been off for the summer, eating soup and other comfort foods and coming into a warm room after being out in the rain/freezing cold. I wish it would snow again this year. Pints in a cosy cosy pub after Christmas shopping is fun too. Winter has a certain buzz about it.

Love the long dark nights of winter, amazing what you can get away with under the cover of darkness. The walk of shame is never half as bad on a winters morning.

I like both to be honest , I like the summer for going out, long days, BBQ , beach , holidays and I like the winter aswell cause it's relaxing, get to sit in and play computer games without feeling guilty about the weather...

I love really frosty mornings in the winter if only we could get more of this and less rain. Winter also means christmas which I enjoy.

No way, I was just thinking the same last night that I can't wait to climb into bed and have to warm myself up. I am really sick of summer clothes too, my dresses keep blowing up in the street so I can't wait to get my coats back. Ah Autumn hurry up!!

i don't like the short days. But it doesn't seem to rain as much as "summer" here in Winter. We don't seem to get summer here just a rainy season. Or even rainier season. So I wouldn't mind the long cold winter if we got rewarded with some blue skies and warmth in summer. Looking at the weather forecast today has made me depressed. Roll on going to the med in 2 weeks.

Winter means rugby, and no sh!tty clammy heat. I hate hot weather because of the humidity!

Winter would probably be an improvement on whichever season we have now so bring it on.

I love the way I can still wear my winter clothes here in Ireland in August.

I just to love winter until I moved to Germany and I left the lovely crisp winter Dublin mornings behind for feet of snow and miserable sub zero temperatures for months on end.

Autumn in Ireland is the best by the way. Not too cold , not to warm. Pure bliss :D

What you all on about, Ireland has 1 long season, a crap 1 at that.
It gets slightly warmer in the "summer" and slightly cooler in the "winter".
I mean it could well be 20 deg and sunny in November but overcast and chilly for the whole of August.

I do agree I find it cosy when it gets dark at 4pm and am cable to have a lazy night in front of the fire.

I hate winter.. BUT crawling into a bed at night with electric blanket/hot water bottle is something so so nice that you just can't do in summer :)

Autumn in Ireland is the best!

Especially windy evenings with the leaves blowing off trees, and those mornings where you feel a bit of a winter bite, but not enough to make you shiver.

Best enjoyed without the usual accompanying rain though.

I love the freezing cold weather at 7:00 am. Especially in mid-december.

Strange, but it's just so good.

I hate winter. The only good thing about winter is Christmas.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

Hate the winter, especially dark evenings/mornings...I'd go as far as to say that I get mildly depressed from the lack of light.
Hate the bitter cold you get in this country when in relative terms it's not actually that cold...hate having to have the heating on and shelling out for the gas. Hate not being able to dress how I like when going out.
My work also slows down in the winter, especially exterior work. Hate that.
Winter is probably a wonderful season...but not in Ireland AFAIC...

I'm hoping for a severe polar continental incursion this winter that extends out into the Atlantic. Although, the signs are it is going to be a crappy mild winter overall:mad:

Love Winter, love the dark evenings and coming home and juts sitting by the fire for the night. But I think it's mostly because I associate all these things with Christmas

Look - I know Irish people love to exaggerate the weather but 35 degrees average in in winter in Abu Dhabi is just taking the mick

BTW I hate irish winters. Its cold, dark, wet and windy and costs a fortune to keep the house warm

love winter. love gettin up on a crisp, fresh frosty morning, going out just to come home for a cuppa tea and warm buttery toast.

just hate rain especially when you.ve got to go somewhere and the heavens open with that unrelenting downpour and your stuck at home .
As its ireland i seem to be suffering from cabin fever at this stage:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

I grew up in hot and humid tropical weather, and I love the winters here.

This might sound strange but I love the rain too! Rain has a therapeutic / calming effect on me! I just hate the wind that comes with the rain though, especially when it just keeps changing directions making it impossible to stay dry even if you are wrapped like an eskimo!

My least favorite Irish weather system is the humid nights - makes me wonder if I should get a ceiling fan put in..!

If it wasn't for being in school; i'd love it. If we got a bit of proper snow at some stage would be great but high temperatures are overrated. (Not that we get them anymore :D)

Yes I love the winter! I love the summer too, just not our summers. They are pretty plain.

Don't really like the early darkness thing though. Get depressing. Especially when you go in to work and it's dark and then come out and it's STILL dark.

winter = sunrise much easier to get up for to take camera out for photographs :)

winter = not so good for keeping fingers warm while taking photographs :(
