Waiting To Hear If I Got Job

Had an interview last Wednesday with a good firm and that went well and then a few hours after the interview they emailed me to get referee contact details and then on Friday morning they rang me back to ask would I go for a second interview with them that day at 2pm and i think that went very well.

they said that they would let me know within the next week but surely if a company wants you they don't take days to decide do they? From memory, I think I have been offered jobs the day after the interview.

So my question is can I call or even email them to 'get the status' on the position or would that come across badly? I'm dying to know cos I need a job so badly and I'd really like this one. I'd rather know asap what the story is.

Ring them, DON'T EMAIL them. Emails may not be responded to straight away, and this will really drive you up the wall. Ringing them will get some sort of response straight away.

OP I'm in the same situation waiting to hear back, hopefully today or tomorrow.

The thing is though they are not going to pick you straight away without going through the other candidates and I'm sure there are 3 or 4 times the amount of candidates that there usually was.

They most likely have other candidates as well that they need to interview and also possibly a final meeting to make the decision.

I would wait until the week is out at least before I'd give a call and ask; anything earlier would seem a tad to desperate as it is with in the time span they specified.

Delays do occur. I was once left waiting a couple of weeks for an offer because the manager who had to sign off on the hire was on holiday. They'd decided on me directly after the interview but couldn't say anything or make an offer until he returned.

As Nody says, wait a full week then make a polite courtesy call asking for an update.

Wait until next Monday before you contact them. This means you gave them the week they promised.

Ok you're all right, I'll wait. Thanks guys.

I am desperate thats the problem. Fingers crossed anyway.
Please let them ring me soooonnn !!!!!

Good luck to you PCros :)

Thanks. Best of luck to you.

I know what you mean by desperate!:(

Don't worry about the delay, it's fairly common that the decision must be okayed by a senior manager so they need to wait for a meeting and it could easily be a couple of days, especially now with people off on holidays.

when i had an interveiw a few weeks ago for a company i was told it would be about a week before they got back ended up being two weeks.

I'm sorry but I just need to vent.

I'm still waiting to hear back about this job and I'm worried now that the company haven't bothered contacting me if I was unsuccessful. Surely they would let me know either way ??!!

I'm just so frustrated at this stage and I'm obsessively checking my email and phone all the time. For Godsake I wish they'd let me know

(normally) when a company know who they want it happens very quickly.

move on and get back to your job search.

with a bit of luck they'll get in touch while you continue your search, if not at least you didn't waste time wondering about it.

the vast majority of companies in ireland are terrible at getting back to people.

no point getting frustrated or worked up, it's not going to get you a job.

Come on, the interview was on Friday and they said it would be up to a week before they contacted you.

Stop obsessing and relax. You cannot control your situation.

I have continued looking btw and I've another interview on Mon actually.

    Bah, same situation

Saw this thread and wanted to share my dilemma.

I went for an interview this day two weeks back for an IT company.

Everything "I Think" went well on the day and they said it would be up to a week possibly two before I hear back.

So fast forward to this week, on Wednesday I decided to ring the company's HR person I am dealing with.

She said that a decision had not been made as of yet, and would be hopefully be done by the end of the week. She also said the Hiring manager had got back to her discounting certain candidates, and she said I wasnt on the list of people being discounted. So after two weeks of worrying and obssesion, I am driving myself up the walls tbh, I wish they could just tell me one way or another whether I am out or in.

Today is Friday and I am so depressed waiting for an answer of any kind, so now I will have to wait till next week to hopefully get an answer, this is driving me crazy waiting.

The question is do I give up on this after next week and not contact them anymore, incidentally I hate job searching.

Well I went for a job about 5 weeks ago, obviously i didnt get it, but it took them 5 weeks to get back to me, all the time it was me who was mailing or calling...and all the time i was getting the same answer back we are busy with setting up in Dublin...bla bla bla....in the end i got an email saying they decided to hire someone internally.....after being told i did a fab interview and that they were very please with me....i was only dealing with the agency not the actualy company...but it was bad of them to not bother tell me a week into it that hey even though they were please with u they will go for someone internally who is willing to move to Dublin from the UK.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,679 ✭✭✭Chong

I have a feeling this is what is going to happen to me, pretty depressing all the same though but hey suppose what can you do.

When your outta work for a while and these opportunities come along its why I am obsessing, its feels unfair to be strung along Anna.

Chong...yes i know but c'est la vie.....i suggest we all take it slow one day at a time and see what happens, there is no point in stressing....well in all honesty i only have been off work 2 months and a half....and im hoping i wont be like this for 2 long, but if it will be then i will just have to go along with whats happening at the moment

I have a few friends out of work and my wife works in FAS plus I am also unemployed myself. Unfortunately there are companies carrying out interviews and then not hiring anybody. Some jobs simply are only there if they find the perfect candidate and some companies are also checking to see if they can get somebody wonderful for a cheap price.

As a contractor I have friends spread in lots of different companies and some of it is down to the HR people looking busy. I went for a job looking for an immediate start and 6 weeks after I did a technical test I have a second interview despite them telling me I would hear within 3 days.

The technical test was a complete joke too as it was hand written and and hour and half long. I have not written so much in about 10 years.

    Hey Chong

I feel your pain, i really do.

I think you should keep looking regardless of the waiting to hear back from these guys. i know you're obsessing but I still think that if a company wants you then they'll let you know within a couple of days at least.

I hate that companies are taking weeks now to get back to people knowing that people are anxiously waiting to know whats going on.

Keep looking (i hate job searching too, its soul destroying and i DETEST recruitment agencies) and hopefully you'll get something soon.

    Best of luck ;)

I can understand why you're saying that its breaking you. I know it can get you down big time. Take care x

Went for an interview myself today. Have been let go just over a week ago. Just could not face standing in the dole cue, it's really not my thing. Have to pay my months rent soon and have no money. Hopefully things will go in my favour. Have an interview coming up for euphony. Has anyone heard of them? Hope everyone does well and gets their decision soon.

Used to deal with Euphony as a competitor......presume that it is Telesales? Think that you will be working off a dialer and more or less cold calling, if you can sell though it has good potential.

Op, take it from me as I have direct experience in this area, the balance you strike on this one is vital. You don't want to come across as desperate but equally you need to come across as keen.

Firstly, my direct experience (being someone who carries out reference checks) is that you will likely get offered this job tomorrow or Tueday. If you don't then drop a line on Tuesday afternoon between 2-4pm (as HR areas can finish early) and subtley mention that you wondered might there be any clarity in regard of the interview process for job x as you are approaching the latter stages in another process. Propose that you have a third interview on Friday and you would be hopeful but equally you just don't know.

Hope this helps, PM me how it goes... BOL

Reference checks (BUT this can be dependent on the area and whether it is public vs private sector)

If you have already phoned them and asked what the situation was , is it better to write it off at this stage?

I was told id know Thursday or Friday of last week, should I leave it at this stage now?

I really am started to think there is a big black cloud over my head as far as jobs go! I am so fed up. Worst is all my friends seem to have it together with good jobs... I just do not understand what I am doing that is so different to them... And yes being on the dole is sole destroying, I'd say every week you go into the post office your confidence takes another dive!!! I just cannot stop complaining today usually i'm not this bad, but its starting to come to head now..

Hi op, hope you heard something back by now! One way or the other waiting drives anyone nuts!
My own experience 5 months out of work, 3 different interviews, 1st one called me said i came 2nd only 1 job :)
2nd interview 2 weeks ago nothing, not even a no email.
3rd interview last friday still hoping but losing hope at this stage.
I have sent all companies thank you for interview.
But its an employers market i really think it would not take 5 mins to send generic no email. Its just rude.
The last 2 interviews i went to travelled over 100 miles, that costs money on petrol. Anyway both companies lost a customer won't be spending with them.
Back to the job hunt now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 357 ✭✭Lucyx

i only got a six month contract the last time i was looking so here i am looking again.

i had an interview today and i've a feeling i may have blown it. for some reason i was really nervous and didn't have the good flow of the english language that i've had in previous interviews. i kept saying 'basically' !!!!
i was able to stop myself but i think i said it about ten times in 5 sentences. sh1te :o

so i'm just wondering would it be a good idea to email the company saying 'thanks a mill for meeting with me blah blah....and i was quite nervous as i would really like the position so i hope you guys can allow for this but very interested in the company blah blah'....

would it be pathetic to send a mail like this or will i just leave it ???
don't mind grovelling a bit cos the job would suit me grand.

I'm in a similar situation, but have been waiting much longer.

I made it the last round of interviews for a software engineering job in Cisco in Galway about 4 weeks ago. Havn't heard anything back good nor bad. I'm hoping that they havn't finished the interviews but if that is the case, the number of candidates would be huge and my chances minimal.

Finally plucked up the courage to email them today about it. I'm not too pushed about it because i'm graduating this year and am not opposed to staying in college for another year but would like some closure either way

do many of you find that even if you have had an interview, the companies still do not inform you either way?

I had an interview over 2 weeks ago, I was told at the time that I would be informed the following day or the friday morning as the person had 3 more candidates to interview , this came and went so I left it for a week, I rang last week to find out what the story was on it, firstly the number rang out 2 times and went to a full mail box, then it went to another company entirely and finally it was answered, I was told that the person who was conducting the interviews was out sick but I would be informed when she returned, this is a week tomorrow and still no word.

Firstly would you think it sounded suss with the way the calls went when I was ringing initally, I was using redial to dial the number and do you think I should just cut my losses and move on??
