UPC Connection Fee

I've just moved into a new house which has UPC analogue TV at the moment and I'm looking to get Digital TV and Broadband in. Now the house is actually my dad's second property so I'll be renting from him. He currently pays for the analogue TV so I was thinking of keeping the bills in his name, upgrading to digital and broadband and just giving him the money every month. I see on the UPC website that, for existing analogue customers, they want a €30 connection fee for the digital and €60 if you're getting the HD box (I presume the €60 is inclusive of the other connection fee and that it's not a €90 fee when getting HD!).

My question is do they charge this ridiculous connection fee? I've completed out the online order form and it's giving the total monthly fee but has nothing in the one-off costs section which I assume should show the connection fee.

Yes they do, it is to cover the cost of sending an engineer around to the house to connect up the new gear. You could try calling their sales line and try to negotiate it down if you are getting a few services.

Yeah I might do that. There's nothing to setting up that gear, I could do it myself. I think some settings might have to be changed on UPC's side to get the HD working though. I'll give them a ring. Thanks.
