Chorus/NTL are making a lot of noise at the moment about their new offers which include HD TV at much lower prices than Sky with radio ads etc.
I read over the weekend that they don't include Sky Sports HD or Sky Movies HD in their HD package so how can they claim they are offering HD with only a few HD channels like BBC HD etc? They are not compairing like with like. Sky need to fight back!

Because they are. If they offered only one HD channel then they could claim they are offering HD.

Sky don't need to fight back. Their HD package is far superior to Chorus.

In fact, a number of people that I know through the years have switched from Chorus / NTL to Sky before HD came along because of the problems they had.

I've never had Chorus but they appear to have a bad name.

yes Smooch71 but listening to Chorus/NTL promos you would think they are offering similiar HD product to Sky at much lower prices. I suppose you would think someone looking to get HD would read up on it including on forums like this and realise it is an inferior product from Chorus/NTL!!

Well Sky HD costs €15 per month, UPC costs €2.50 per month, so there is a big difference in price.

Also strictly speaking there ads are correct. They do offer HD, just not for all the same channels as Sky. €2.50 might be fine for someone who doesn't have or want Sky Sports and Movies anyway.

I believe UPC are trying to negotiate with Sky to get Sky Sports and Movies in HD as well, but sky aren't going to give up on the advantage of having these channels exclusively without a fight. The Sky HD channels aren't even on Virgin cable in the UK, that shows how bad the situation is. The competition authority in the UK is looking into the situation and may force Sky to wholesale it's channels to others.

BTW ESPN HD is on UPC, proving that UPC will carry as many HD channels as they can get their hands on.

That will make no difference to UPC though.

Unless UPC bring it to the attention of the EU competition authority.

How long would that route take. Surely they could do that now and Virgin could also do so.

    This is true.

ive had chorus hd back now for around 5 weeks and im now going to a solicitor to pull out of the contract.the tv keeps freezing and the internet keeps going down.the technician who put the hd box in cut the wire to the internet box .so i called the tech support and waited on the phone for half an hour for someone to answer.when the did answer they said theyd send the same gobshi&3 to fix itwhen he got her he claimed he never cut the net wire and that hed be back the next day that was a week ago.ive sent an email explaining that a solictor is going to be used i never even got an automated response back
chorus cant compare themselves with sky digital theres no comparison sky has way better quality and more channels and the tech support is way better.i:
chorus might say there hd is as good as skys but at the end of the day its not and its to slow to load
chorus has got a bad name and its only getting worse

The quality of standard TV on UPC is very poor to begin with.

    +1

UPC are no contenders to the Sky HD package.

In my opinion Sky HD is well worth the €15 extra - and my display has only 768 lines!

You don't really need to get a solicitor involved, I cancelled my contract with them after 2 of the most excruciating months of my life. I basically told them I wanted to speak to the cancellation department, and that I was not going to be paying the a disconnection fee.

UPC have the worst customer service in the world, they will outright lie to you, I had an engineer tell me that he had opened a network case while I was on the phone to the girl in customer service who told me that he closed the case 30 minutes earlier (as fixed!!!)

Not only did I not have to pay a disconnection fee, but I got every last cent that I had paid them back. Do not settle for anything less man.

Let us know how it goes. Also, make sure you take the name and location of everyone you speak to (The Clonmel office appears to be an outsourced operation, and they don't seem to be able to solve anything -- but they are also less likely to lie to you, Limerick would appear to have all the actual ntl employees)...

If they refuse, all you have to say is that they have failed to provide the services that you have paid for.

BTW, they also seem to have issues with calling it a refund, they might like to call it a gesture of goodwill, but they could call it Mandy for all I care, as long as you get the money back.
