I don't know this, but I'd say they're open to offers.

One on back of Irish Times a week or so ago, can't remember if it quoted a price, €15,000 seems to ring a bell. Also do a search on www.gumtree.ie for golf memberships

why would you pay the joining fee when you can just pay someone elses sub and get the membership for the year.

how much for a lease though? I'm paying less than annual sub where I am, and I understand there are 80 memberships there who haven't paid a sub this year, which prob not atypical - so stands to reason that this is replicated across a lot of clubs.

the membership out there isn't for a share in the club afaik, you've no rights attaching other than playing. Now that makes no difference these days, and they were never going to build on that land, but what were people paying 40K for?

what rights do you need? Clubs are a bit up there own arses who gives a sh1t who the captain is you are only there to play golf.. Carton is full of lads who are starting to look at how much it is really costing them. The value of the share is going down and a 2400 sub it could be costing them over a 100 a week/

when I lease in Killeen I am the member for that year, I can attend AGM and vote, person who i am leasing from cannot

what are people paying €40k for...who knows...there are legitimate reasons for not being able to play for a while and then it makes sense to lease it out

From what I hear the hotel decides which course the "members" play on

In Carton you get a diary at the start of the year and it tells you what course the competitions will be played on. But from past experence if the weather is anyway bad the Monty is nearly unplayable there will be placing everywhere and no SS. I joined it for a year to get cut because my other club had placing on from October to nearly May but it turned out to be a waste of money because Carton was the same. The European Club is great value for winter golf buy 8 greenfees for 500 and play every few Sundays when everyelse is closed you dont even have to clean your shoes when your finished.

BostonC - I think you're taking me up wrong. I've no interest in rights - my point was the money these lads spent without even getting rights. I'm leasing presently and happy out at it.

    Uberwolf,
I'm looking for a lease in Dublin west and Carton not too far from me in Maynooth.
But 2400 is a bit steep for my level of golf.

I estimate that I would need to play at least 30 games in a year to justify the lease verses just paying green fees. Thats going to be hard for someone like myself who may only get out 20 times in a year.

So considering there is waiting list of members (same say >80) do you think it's possible that any Carton House members would lease their sub for less than the 2400?

From what I understand, if they don't pay the sub they don't get any of the 40k back, so it may make sense for them to lease at less than the sub value.

YES some of the members will drop the price
