For me, off the top of my head it would have to the music used in 'The Beach' I enjoyed the film but was years late blown away by the book.

I wonder if some Disney ones will crop up;)

I wouldn't be surprised if someone said Lion King. ;)

My pick is Blade Runner by Vangelis.

It just fitted the film absolutely perfectly.

Shawshank Redemtion's main theme, and the kiss theme to Last of the Mohicans. Nothing comes close to these two. Also, Ludovico Einaudi's Fuori Dal Mondo from This is England is amazing too.

Well, my favourite of all time has got to be the Blues Brothers Soundtrack. I didn't really appreciate it for years, but now it takes pride of place. Every track on it is a winner.

    Almost Famous
    Juno
    Cruel Intentions
    Forest Gump
    Pulp Fiction

I love the 2001: A Space Odyssey soundtrack, it's so evocative. Grygory Legetti's choral stuff is pure tension, and the rest of the pieces are so well-known and atmospheric as to speak for themselves. Great sleeping music, until you wake in the dark at 2am to the strains of HAL's insane death-chatter...

Easy Rider is also great, Steppenwolf :D

once upon a time in the west
once upon a time in america
basically all sergio leones movies combined with ennio morricone scores!!
basically the music ties in well with the film and and makes the films great.

quitan tarrantino was huge fan off the above and tried to do the same with kill bill.

Absolutely. Took the words out of my mouth.

Also Jaws. John Williams can be a bit cheesey but Jaws was a masterpiece.

    American Beauty (Main Theme)
    Gallipoli (End Theme)
Platoon (Main Theme & when Elias gets shot)

    are a few others.

Repo Man - some great punk stuff

    Road to Perdition.

The only great film I've come out of thinking about the music more than the movie, and the movie was bloody great :D

Meet Joe Black, gets an honourable mention but that was a pants movie..... :P

yer man's ear was getting cut off
. Also Stand by Me also had a great soundtrack which really gave the feel of the era.

    great movie in better soundtrack.

    Into the Wild (2007) +1
    Sean Penn directed.
    Adventure/Bio of Christopher McCandless.

Eddie Vedder (pearl jam) contributed a lot of solo pieces. Brilliant soundtrack, set the tone and added to most scenes. Great film in general tho imo.

    Mine is Amélie.

    Magical

And also came across this cute animated short recently with music from Amelie in it.

Done by a student. Really impressive:

For years I would have said Blade Runner until I saw and heard Scorsese's Last Temptation of Christ.

Peter Gabriel's score is probably still my all-time most listened-to album. just stunning music. Kinda crap movie though.

The Thin Red Line soundtrack is also pretty amazing, as was Full Metal Jacket, which I listened to death many years ago - It just suited the movie so well, despite being completely un-warmovielike

I also have a soft spot for the Wicker Man soundtrack.

Anything by Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Howard Shore or Patrick Doyle for me.

    Nicholas Hooper is good too.

the best soundtrack has gotta be 'Once upon a time in the West' by Morricone. All five main characters have their own unique themes. Its incredible how versatile Morricone is.

A couple of excellent electronic soundtracks are Giorgio Moroder for 'Midnight Express' and Vangelis for 'Blade Runner'.

I like Princes soundtrack for 'Batman' too.

I have always loved soundtracks. They're a great way of keeping your options open musically and experiencing the atmosphere of a time, place or way of life.

Most of my favourites have already been mentioned:

Almost Famous (America and Tiny Dancer ... amazing songs)
    Pulp Fiction
    Easy Rider
    Cruel Intentions
    Pulp Fiction
    Reservoir Dogs
    Dirty Dancing
    Everything by Ennio Morricone

I could listen to the song 'Cora' from The Last of the Mohicans all day. I don't know if it's ever been released as an OST, but the music from Zee & Co. (a mad film from the early 70s written by Edna O'Brien and starring Elizabeth Taylor) is great ... lots of Three Dog Night.

Forrest Gump will always win hands-down for me. I got it when I was 12 and it introduced me to a whole world of music I never knew existed.

Kill Bill had a great mixture of original score and licensed music, pretty much everything Tarantino does has a great soundtrack actually...

    Blade Runner - nuff said
    Scarface (seriously!)
I like Princes soundtrack for 'Batman' too.
    BATDAAAAANCE!

Well there's some of John Williams stuff. Particularly Jurassic Park and E.T.

Michael Andrews' soundtrack for Donnie Darko was also excellent. It's by far my favourite.
