Watching TV on laptop

I just got a new laptop with vista home premium and as my bedroom TV is kaput I thought I'd save money on a new one by connecting the laptop to the TV signal sender receiver. However the receiver only has a scart connection. I've googled to see if I can get a scart to hdmi adaptor but apart from one expensive converter box no joy. Anyone have other suggestions. It doesn't have to be brilliant picture as long as I can get my CSI/ Law and Order fix - which means access to Hallmark and Living.

Does it have a coax connection? If so you can get tv cards that work through the usb port that should do what you want. I haven't seen any that work with scart though.

Your laptops HDMI is an Out. Its not like USB - it only works unidirectionally.

I don't know what coax point is. It has VGA port. Would that be any use do you think? I've a feeling it will end up being cheaper to pick a second hand TV somewhere. By the time I get a TV card and a cable converter.

The VGA is an Out, like the HDMI.

Coaxial, RF, etc. - this is like the cable that connects your Skybox to the Satellite dish outside.

You would know quickly if your laptop had a male receiver port for one, and it would have been a major selling point on your laptop that you would already be well aware: such a thing would be far from Standard.

I use hulu myself. but thats useless without a US IP, which I understand, some companies allow you to Rent. But the legitimacy of these claims I would mark questionable.

Thanks. That helps a lot. I'll look into it but I reckon it will end being cheaper and easier to get a second hand TV instead. Oh well.
