Youd be pretty unlucky to catch anything in Bangkok if you are only there for 3 days- but if you really want to err on the side of caution then maybe check out the NHS's Travel Medicine website which has good advice.

I think the malarial high risk areas are near the borders? I got a map thing from my doctor and it has these high risk areas highlighted so maybe do a search online for something like that? If you wont be in these parts then its probably not worth getting them. The Mekong I think too is bad for Mosquitos and you wont be near there either but its your choice.

I think theres a couple of levels of vaccination you can get. When I left, I got everything and it cost about €320 but a friend of mine who was only in Asia for a short time got a few basic ones for €100 so that might be an option also.

Would definitely check about malaria... you dont want to be getting that! I had shots for Thailand - there's another thread here somewhere about shots in Thailand - got best prices in www.travelhealth.ie on dawson st. Nice doc too and didn't hurt!

Unless you are going inland near jungle region there is no point plus its a course of tablet before and after you leave an infected area, i spent £150 on them never took 1/4 of them, bring good swedish 'deet' repelant, sleep inside a mossie net, you should survive, enjoy!

It'd be about 150 for injections for hepatitis and all, then whatever the Malaria tabs would cost

I'll be in the lowest risk areas, but still, mossies can fly!

You won't need course for malaria if you are only there for a short time as you have to take it before and after you go. If when you get there you are concerned by your insect repellent not keeping the mozzies at bay you can buy the malaria medication over the counter (there is even a boots in Phuket!). An easy way to keep mozzies away is not wear perfumes/aftershaves or any smelly cosmetics that attract them (I found that when I drank gin in fiji i didn't get a single bite but was ravaged when i didn't, odd that)

You will defo need to get shots for hepatitis and for tetanus (that one hurts a lot), maybe not rabies - use your common sense and don't expect to feed animals and you won't get bitten.

What you should concentrate on is bringing meds for diarrohea and especially diarrolyte, as your delicate western stomach will take offence to asian cooking no matter where you eat from!!!

Man I can't believe some of the prices I'm getting for this. Never thought the medicine would be so bloody expensive!!

We're heading to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore in just over a month, seems we'd wanna get the jabs fast!!

But God what a fcuking rip.

check out the tropical medicines website.

just so you know if your getting injections u need to get them 4-6 weeks before you travel so your immune system is built up and they can work properly. ring them they are irish and a place is based in grafton street

Tis a bit of a rip all right - shop round tho - there's a big price difference between these places. You know, in the UK they're mostly free?!!

There's no malaria in Bangkok or Phuket so that's not an issue. Jabs for hepatitis, tetanus and typhoid are probably a good idea wherever you're travelling outside of Europe.
