Just wondering if bottled water has the same chemicals/nutritants as tap water.

I know they clean it up but do they over do it? Do we get the same benifits.

Tap water will vary from area to area and depends on what filtration system you have etc, however its a good idea never to refill or reuse bottles that water comes in. The plastic starts to breakdown and leach chemicals into your water. The bottles say do not refill for a reason, not just because they want you to buy more water, well probably both :P

So what your saying is that it is just a conspiracy to get you to buy more water :D

But does bottled water have the same value as tap water, or do they remove too much of what you need from the water.

Is that such a crazy idea?

The main thing you need from water is....water. I'm open to correction but I think that trace minerals in water aren't important to the point of being worth the extra money (or packaging, if you care about that sort of thing).

I was watching Buyer Beware last year and they where speaking about the water distillers that you can have installed. One of the scientists was asked would they be happy to drink the water out of the distiller since it has just distilled healthy water from the tap. She replied with "no", since all of the important trace minerals in the water had disappeared from the distill water (Being very intelligent I had mentioned this before they asked the question :) )

I am cutting down on minerals (i.e. coke and ****) and have taken to drinking the Sparkling flavoured waters. So I am wondering if those trace elements are in them. also if the flavourings are just as bad as coke and ****.

These are becoming more popular, but people should not confuse them with filtration devices. A still will strip it of everything, it is very much overkill IMO, and it leaves you with a completely flavourless water which is not nice tasting at all. The only advantage I could see in it is for people with a high salt intake who need to offset it.

Bottled water is one of the biggest marketing scams ever. I have read a lot on it, and due to my job I have attended several lectures on water treatment & filtration. In short water filtration is far cheaper AND should produce a better cleaner water and usually a better tasting water. As mentioned earlier bottled water can leach crap out of plastics (not just when refilled). Bottled water is also very environmentally unfriendly.

Usually does have the minerals, it should say it on the bottle. The bad stuff in coke is usually said to be the phosphoric acid, and aspartame, you could just get a water filter and add your own flavour, like fresh lemon & lime juice.

I like carbonated drinks so I am looking for an alternative to 7up, hence I am drinking Lemon and Lime Sparkling water.
