Look up data recovery software and pick one. Theres loads that will do it.

    Hi Kenon,

Will the data recovery software extract all the files on the usb or the files i produced on the computer and moved to the usb??

It's just that the files were moved from various computers??

    Thanks,

    Tux

The device needs to be detected before a recovery software would be able to recover

LOL, Just cos PC World couldn't recover doesn't mean it not recoverable. From my experience these guys know SFA, PC World won't pay anyone with any sort of knowlege or experience, Why don't You ask Your Granny, She'd know more, honestly

The software will scan the memory key and then you will be able to extract them to your PC if they are intact.

But Pog is right, the software needs to detect the usb for it to be able to do that. Are there lights on the memory key to show that it is working? Have you checked Device manager in the control panel to see if it shows up there when you plug it in?

Not being detected by Windows is the worst possible sign, it means the usb key is more than likely fubar. As You say You've tried it in a few pc's so I'd say the outlook is not good.

Being non-volatile and undetectable the data's probably intact so long as the controller didn't surge all the flash memory on its way out. It'd be more typical to see the stick being detected but corrupt/unreadable if the data was fried. Fault is probably fried controller or a dry solder has given way in there somewhere.

Not that that's a good thing - unless you're some kind of expert on electronics and USB stick schematics then any chance to recover the data (if its still there) will be with a professional data recovery team, and that's big bucks :(

If it's a hardware fault you'll have to send it off to some experts to get the data off. Their out there and I'd assume their no where near as expensive as trying to get data off a broken hard drive.

These guys claim they can recover data from usb keys with hardware faults ...

I've a key with a similar failure, will never trust them for anything but moving data between machines. I intend on investigating it with multimeter and soldering iron, but I've already accepted the data as lost. Some minimal info on selfrepair:
