Using portfoilio in interviews

Have a few interviews coming up and was just wondering about using my portfolio or pieces from it in the interview? My portfolio is 5 folders in total so perhaps it would be too much to bring it all in with me but I was thinking maybe it would be no harm to bring in samples that I used during my dip. we were encouraged to do this on the PGDE course but realistically what do people recommend? Is is a bit forward or would it be worth having a few bits to mention.

What is it a portfolio of?

Teaching materials you've made yourself might be helpful for a position where you would be dealing with children with a very low reading age who are unable to use textbooks.

oh sorry - should have explained! It is secondary school with English and History being my subjects! The porfolios are of my lesson plans and materials (some being made by me) that I used, inclusing special education needs and ESL stuff!

Since the funding for special needs and ESL has been savaged by An Bord Snip, I'd say they'd be good points to stress in an interview as there are very few schools won't have need of someone with that sort of expertise.

If you want any info on ESS (the combined History/Geography option for Junior Cert. exam that's growing rapidly among special needs students), PM me. Might give you a heads up over others applying for the job if you say you know something about it.

    Good luck.
