    Hi,
I am doing Gael Force this weekend, I have done the training now ( a good session yesterday to round it off ) so we are nearly there.

Just wondering what people would recommend as a plan for this week leading up to the race ?

    Should I :

    - train until Thursday decreasing a bit every day
    - do nothing but stretch all week

would a deep tissue massage be a good idea ?

My pre race week I still train most days, just shorter and with good stretching session after. I try to follow race day conditions too, get up at the same time as race morning, eat the same breakfast, ware the same cloths as I will during the race!

I've never had a deep tissue massage so cant comment on that....

IMO, deep tissue massage wouldn't be a good idea too close to a race. I'm not an expert so others may disagree but deep tissue massage does what it says on the tin so your muscles will be sore for a day or two afterwards.

I think the best advice is don't do/try/eat anything new coming up to a race. Tried and tested is the way to go.

I always keep the training very light coming up to a race and do a warm up jog and stretch on the morning.

I did nothing about the Kayak training, just going to take a chance on the day that I will get through it, don't know if my regular rowing machine stuff in the gym would be of any use.

I'm dreadful for rest - I just cannot do it.
I did a very good session on Sunday, a light session on Monday and a gaelic match last night.
Did a decent swim this morning, will do a light run and cycle tonight.
I think just stretching / rest for tomorrow and Friday and maybe a few prayers.

have to agree with salmonrun there...i neglected the training especially on the bike-hoping not to get shin splints as have had them over the last month or so. however like any other race/marathon I completed im really starting to feel the buzz.:) come on the reek...:D

salmonrun-where can we get the heart massage?? :pac:
