    hi there

looking at two options for travelling from laytown

    1. matthews bus to parnell square (1700 yearly ticket) and then either the 10 or 46a to ucs (havent managed to get a price on this yet)

time supposedly 45mins from laytown to parnell square and then probably 30-40 mins in rush hour to ucd totalling approx 85 mins

    2. train from laytown to sydney parade (67 mins) and then number 3 to belfield (timing it right with the train might be tricky)

from bus stop to belfield including waiting time approx 20 mins (single from here is 1.15)

    total = 87mins

trying to evaluate total costs here for the two options and also wondering if anyone is doing this particular commute and if they could comments on reliability and time of both services described]

    thanks for any replies

The bus is far more comfortable. Mathews always seems empty too. The train as it goes along ends up like a sardine can and gets packed with people with barely any room to move by the time it reaches Skerries. Not very nice day in day out!

Another option would be to get Bue Eireann from Julianstown if you could get a lift in the morning. The price is far cheaper (standard single way mathews €7-bus eireann €4/€5 depending on time). Many of the BE buses are more indirect, going through the airport etc - but they do have many buses that are more straightforward.

I did Laytown-Connolly by train, then Connolly-Tallaght by Luas every day for about two years and by god does it get to you :D

This time im moving out rather than going through that again!

    Go with the bus.

what sort of time does it take to get from laytown to parnell square via bus?

just as an aside, did you find laytown a nice place to live?

You could walk from Sydney Parade to UCD in little over 20mins. Far better than waiting along with throngs of people for that useless bus

I havnt used the Mathews bus in a while, but I think your looking at 40-50 minutes. I could be wrong. The BE ones would probably take a little longer as many go through Balbriggan and or the airport.

Well its beside the beach, nice scenery etc. But the novelty of that dosnt last long. There's about 4 convenience shops, two supermarkets (including a Tesco), 6 or 7 pubs, 3 hotels, two gyms including a swimming pool, golf & tennis club (membership costs are supposed to be V high), two pitch and putt courses, 4 restaurants, Funtasia (including an ice rink on the roof which adults might enjoy) all in the local area including Bettystown. Other than that, not much else.

Most of the bars do be full of middle and old aged people in my experience. Much of the 'nightlife' is in Drogheda.

Im mixed on whether I find Laytown a nice place to live. If you dont have a car then everything is far away and the transport system, in particular the bus to Drogheda is infrequent and expensive. It is also the case that the train fee's are a ripoff too as they add a charge on the price of tickets when it crosses the Dublin border. This means Gormonston and Laytown are far more expensive than the next station in Balbriggan.
