Honestly shut up. Ireland has the 14th lowest homicide rate in the world. It is the safest country in Europe. Ireland is not out of control no matter how much you want to believe it to be.

Countrywide crime statistics are pretty meaningless.

That said, it's mostly media hysteria. Maybe we should start stabbing journalists.

That's not good enough. People want their safe peaceful country back.

In fairness this forum has its role to play too. How many 'Scumbags looked at me and made me soil myself!' threads are there from soft, milky nerds each week?

Man up After Hours, man up.

I don't believe that tbh, source?

Quite you, tis that kind of talk caused the Christian Brothers to stop given out the discipline that made us the isle of saints and sodomites..when women wore bras, and there was none of that kind of thing, except for the other lot, and you'd never have good out of them anyway, the shower of shites....

Stabbing has being going on for years to be honest.
BACK-stabbing - and that's just from the biggest gang in the country "The Dail Mob".
Nothing new there then, moving along...

OP - you can't just focus on the recent raft of stabbings/shootings. A look at crimewatch on any given weekend will highlight the huge amount of ongoing offences in relation to horseboxes, small earthmoving equipment and sterling silver cutlery canteens.

Such deeds surely strike at the heart of any democracy, until such fiendish goings-on are stopped for good, we are doomed to wallow in a moral cess-pit.

although i totally agree with your sentiments, that list leaves out about a third of the world's countries, and some of the figures are from as far back as 2000. ireland's is from 2004.

The way this country has been going over the last couple of years I'm surprised the murder rate isnt a hell of a lot higher. Between bankers, politicians and everyone else I'm surprised the whole country hasnt gone on a spree.

It is the safest country in Europe.

Maybe on paper. In reality you'd be safer in Germany, Holland or Denmark. Hell, you'd be safer in France or Spain! I know I've felt much, much safer on my own at 2am in the centre of Stockholm then I ever have in Dublin at 2pm.

Strip out Dublin, Limerick and MAYO :D and then you have your safe country :P

So what you are saying is that altough you are statistically safer in Ireland you feel safer elsewhere. Thats just shows the influence of the hysterical media. The Anglo-Saxon Media over the past 20 years have indued a fear of crime into people.

Ireland is out of control. Today's young knackers are far more anti-social than the ones from the 80s, and the weed they smoke is completely different from the harmless stuff you tried as a teen.

Only a conspiracy nut-job would argue otherwise. What are you suggesting?

Governments use fear and moral panic as a tool to curatil civil liberties?

bah! Conspiracy forum is that way

I was going to write a long reply outlining risk and perceived risk and maybe a few references to documented links between economic instability and increased crime rates.

    But i cant be arsed.

Instead, i am going to have a nice chicken sandwich and then walk the dog.
