Hey there fellow runners, i'm just looking for some advice here regarding ability for the DCM this year. It would cap off a so far wonderful introduction to running this year by competing and finishing it, as so far this year i've had my first 5 and 10 mile races, the half in Sept (all Adidas race series) and with luck the DCM, but i'm not sure if i would be ready for it and this is where you guys n girls can come in.

I've been pretty fit since i only took up exercise again in the last 2 years, walk most places, go running twice or three times a week for up to 10-11 miles depending on training times, since i'm a junior hurler too and coming to the end of my first season playing. Mentally i am aware it is tough and a major challenge, but i can take it:)

So, is there a chance i could be ready, if i can put in the effort training, to run it?

Of course you can, I think you did a decent time aswell in the 10, you would have to get out more than 3 times a week, 5 maybe and structure it better but you've still plenty of time and you've a fitness to work off

Yes you can. But you will need to increase your workload (as Mr Woddle rightly says), increase your mileage and push out your all-important long run. As you suspect it will be far from easy but, if you have the guts for it you'll get there.

But you'll have a far better first full mara if you target one in Spring '10.

Cheers for the comments guys, mucho appreciated:D I can most certainly increase my mileage if needed, not back in college for a few weeks so can put in extra time until then too. Motivation is a major factor, and i will have the guts and determination to see it through. Training times can be sorted, and an extra day or two can only help things really.

Woddle, cheers for that, i heard it was a tough course so to put in a good time made it feel so much better than i originally thought:D

RoyMcC, a spring marathon would be nice yeah, plenty of time to adjust etc, if all goes well though i'll look to the DCM and take it from there...

This may just be a really good year for me fitness and achievements wise, roll on the half in the park on Sep 26:D
