hi...got a fender jag baritone recently and have strung it A-A.....i own a marshall jcm 2000 100 watt head and 1936 2x12 cab....but im a bit scared of plugging in ...in case it blows due to low frequencies ....any players here that have tuned that low or close and had their cab survive to roar another day?:)....

    any advice appreciated

here is a sample of it in a-a

    Gorgeous instrument!

I wouldn't say A would be too low - you're still a fourth above a bass, and aren't a lot of those "bass will blow yer guitar amp" stories a bit exaggerated?

Well my friend blew his amp about 2 years ago that way so I'd be careful.

Nope. He should be fine with the baritone and that cab I think. Just watch the bass control on the JCM and don't push it up too. I'd be more inclined to cut it a little, maybe put it at 11 o' clock.

I have that same guitar and i haven't had a problem through any amp i've owned.
There wouldn't be as much output on those Jag pickups as there would be on basses...

I used to play in a metal band using marshell cabs. I used a very old hohner les paul copy with 13 gauge strings and tuned it down to bgcfad. Never had a problem, still got a nice tone out of it.

Yeah it has its good points. However after studying music theory I no longer drop tune as its quite unnecessary given that you can play over anything once your in concert regardless of register. Have you considered Bass?? If you like the low end so much it might be your thing.

its complicated lol....its just me and a drummer...i use roland midi trigger pedals for bass and wanted baritone for midrange fat melodys and the odd bass run live...if i had a bass i would'nt have the higher octave range from the hi A and E on the Bari........

Ah I see, Why not invest in a pedal with a pitch shifter, my Boss ME-50 lets me shift down a whole octave. sounds like a double bass

have'nt heard the me-50 but ive tried a few, even the eh pog that jack white uses and you can still hear that metallic twang in the background ....im not mad into it personally.im starting to love the baritone....great beefy bassy low end like playing a cello....class.....

They only way even a bass could blow a cab would be if your amp had the bass up full and the volume up really high. But on a baritone guitar, with a string tuned to A, you're not getting the same freqs you would get on the A string of a bass. It's a thinner and slightly shorter string, so your be getting more of the upper harmonics of the note.

I've tuned lower than A and played through a few different cabs without ever blowing anything in any of them. I don't think you'll encounter any problems from it.
