It depends on what your storing

There is a good guide on it here:

I keep most green veg in fridge, but keep root veg in a dark cupboard.

I put all veg in the fridge, except for onions and garlic.

I keep most of my fruit on the table, except for berries, which I refrigerate.

The drawer at the bottom of the fridge is generally intended to store vegetables

Tomatos, peppers, brocolli, cauliflower, lettuce all in the fridge,

Carrots and onions in the press in brown paper bags.

I freeze my garlic :D It keeps forever that way and only takes 5-10 minutes out of the freezer to defrost.

Lately I'm using JML Keep Fresh Bags( http://www.jmldirect.com/currency/EUR/Keep-Fresh-Bags-PK6776/) for storing fruit and vegetables as I was finding they're going off much quicker than usual this summer. The bags have some sort of coating that slows down food aging.I have found them excellent. I definitely get a few extra days of freshness out of everything I've used them with. They're particularly good for things that go off extremely fast like berries. They kept strawberries in mint condition in my fridge for 3 days this weekend. They're €5.99 for 15 in Dunnes and they're reusable after a wipe clean.
