Swim training for novice - help!

    Hi folks,

Decided, optimistically, in July to do a triathlon this year. I had hoped to do the Loughrea Sprint in September. My running and cycling is decent, so I was planning on focusing on the swimming (which is brutal!). Joined a gym (Total Fitness Malahide Road) with a 25m pool. However, a combination of 2 weeks' almost completely exercise-free holidays and slicing up my hand (which meant I had to keep the bandages dry) means there's not a hope. :(

So I'm going to do what was probably the sensible option anyway and train slowly and steadily over the autumn, winter and spring. I've been looking on boards and the intertubes in general, and maybe I'm just being dumb but I can't find any swimming programs for novices (I really am brutal!) Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent site and/or training program?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Until you can swim a good few lengths (a few hundred metres say 400m or so) you don't really need a programme, just get down the pool 3-4 times a week and do what you can. Once you have that done you can worry about programmes and proper technique. Good luck!

Cheers Tunney. I'll give that bash, so (and try not to swallow half the pool in the process!)
