Cannot Receive Irish Channels Without Sky

Just been told by a guy from eirss that i cannot receive any Irish channels unless i pay for them on Sky. I'm in Ballymore Eustace in Co. Kildare and the aerial cannot get a strong enough signal. I have FTA which includes all the BBC and ITV channels etc, yet i can't look at any Irish channel without forking out a monthly payment to bloody Sky. This situation seems incredible to me, anyone else out there in a similar situation?

Can your neighbours receive RTE via aerial?
Have you had you aerial checked by a local installer?
Perhaps a tree has grown or shed has been built since the aerial was installed which has affected the signal. Moving it may resolve the problem.

As for RTE free on satellite, see the satellite forum.

If you have no terrestrial reception and there is no cable in your area then he would be correct.

In theory it could be true

In practice I would imagine there are very few places in the Republic where one couldnt recieve some semblence of a signal from RTE (albeit on a fairly elaborate aerial in some cases) and most of these would be in pretty remote and/or mountainous parts of the country.

You just need a better aerial. There are places you can't get decent RTE via Aerial but I doubt that includes anywhere in Co. Kildare.

Why pay an extra €264 a year approx when a once off proper aerial install will work?

He was here to install the best of aerials watty, and told us it wouldn't be worth our while. The reception would be very poor and he would have to install two aerials one for the RTEs and one for TV3 TG4 and that we wouldn't thank him.

I'd get a second opinion from another installer.
You should be able to receive all channels from a single Ariel from anywhere in Kildare.
Unless you live at the bottom of a mine
