cigerette rolling machine

    Hi,

Do people find these machines useful. I know that a lot of people are purists when it comes to rolling but I'm just not that good at it. I'm only OK at rolling but I find it takes time and patience and can be a bit annoying. especially when I'm drunk and hand eye co-ordination is out the window. To add to this none of my friends roll so I always get stuck with the duty at festivals etc.

They seems to be a range of ones on sale from pocket ones which are a few euros to larger ones for 20-30 euro. Are the pocket ones any good. If anyone uses them is there a type they would recommend? they doesn't seem to be many reviews of rolling machines online.

    Thanks,

    D

No. Pointless and a waste of money.

Mind you, I don't smoke. This may take me out of the demographic.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I am good at hand rolling but still used to use one many years ago. I couldn't find a decent one so made my own, with meccano and other bits!

There are several advantages to them, lumpiness is not much of an issue, you do not have to cut stuff up as finely. The biggest advantage was speed, I could bang out 10 very quickly, like a little production line you could prepare all your materials separately, you can also use FAR less paper. When I was younger everybody was still rolling "3-skinners", most people were using red rizlas and there would be loads of paper on it. With the machine I was able to get 2 blue skins and trim them (fold it, lightly lick the crease and tear off the bit). Now I would join them end to end but only about 5mm overlap (many people have to use massive overlaps with hand rolling). Then I get a 3rd skin and lick the gum and press it on one of the papers where the overlap will be, then take away this skin and the gum remains, so now press the overlapping bit together. Now you have an extra long skin which is really narrow which would be almost impossible to hand roll.

In my machine I would roll it up without the paper and stick it in at the last minute, it feeds in like and old style typewriter, the paper use is minimal since the overlap just needs to be a tiny amount. with king size papers I would not even add in a crease, I would just lick along the halfway crease and tear it in half lengthways.

if you find it hard to get one together, try rolling it fully but don't lick the inside glue, lick the papers on the outside (it'll still sticks) when it's all together..it's a really easy way for anyone that has a problem rolling..

Rolling machines are very handy but I'd say any of the larger ones are a bitch to carry around.

Never heard of this before, sounds good, many overwet it and the gum comes off onto their toungue. Some brands have better gum than others, I prefer swan over rizla.

    Rolling machines suck.

Its near impossible to get them right, the rollie either turns out too loose or too tight.

Just practice and you will get it right.

The machines suck. If you're gonna use anything, use a rolling mat

if you're just starting to learn buy a picket of skins, one cigarette and just keep rolling, rip it up and roll again.practice makes perfect.
also roll it with the roach already in.this will save untold grief when out of it on other substances.

Or heavens forbid, you could just I dunno.... Give up smoking if you can only afford to smoke rollies...

Hate them things. Useless as far as I'm concerned.

Had one of these years back before I could roll consistently...it helped me to learn how to roll because it was sh*t and usually made them too tight. It was a cheapo rizla one.
I remember when I was very young a friend of my mothers having this cool metal tobacco box, where you'd open the lid, stick in a paper into a slot, lick the glue edge and then close it...when you opened it again there was the roll-up...as a child this was a magical device to be admired and ultimately coveted...it was probably the catalyst that lead me to seek out cigarettes in later life.

Swan? Good glue but the paper's too thick...same with most of the rizlas...blues or silvers ftw

Just practice with the machine and you can get it right too. Many try it once and ditch it, yet will dedicate loads of time practising hand rolling.

You can get thinner swans too though. I used to use the red swans to gum the overlap on 2 blue rizlas.

Many are not doing it to save money, many are smoking "herbal" mixtures, and others do it for health reasons, despite how odd that sounds. Normal cigarettes continue lighting if left unattended, they have small amounts of explosive/flammable chemicals in them

    Oh aye, I know.
I used do the same thing :) Just use those jumbo slims now.

hand rolled are without a doubt the best. but if you insist on using a tool i think you should get a rolling mat instead. they are not as prone to being tight and also kind of train you to a certain extent.

prepare to be laughed at though if you use a machine / mat. you will look stupid. if you just keep at the hand rolled ones soon enough they will start to be good.

They're good if you're ****e at rolling, yeah.Otherwise they're not really worth the effort.

yes but nicotine is a gateway drug. just give it time.

You can get a machine which is a metal tin with a cloth flap in the lid - open it up, poke tobacco into the cloth flap and put a filter in, then just lick a paper and place it behind the tobacco. Close the tin and a rollie pops out. You could store tobacco and papers in the tin too.

For joints, though, handrolled wins. Unless you're making some epic monster of a thing, in which case there are safer but lengthier alternatives.

Yea definatly works, we had to find a way for a mate who had cancer to roll his own and this was the only way he could do it, put it all fully together rolled and all, then just lick the outside to stick it together, no more rizal stuck to tounge incidents and perfectly rolled smokes..

you must have only got crap machine rolled ones! Too many people try and use it to mimic hand rolling with a machine, I use a completely different method.

People laughed at my meccano DIY job, but they knew I could handroll well. Then they were amazed at what I could turn out, and the speed of it. I could roll 5-6 in the time they would roll one, and mine would be perfect. I remember some people thinking they were cigarettes when looking at them, since they were completely uniform all the way down, they thought it was some special brand with white filters. Also I was able to have the bare minimum of paper, i.e. the gummed paper was sticking down to the very edge of the paper, there was no excess. This would be impossible to do using a normal hand rolling methods.

The roach goes in at the start as mentioned, in fact I used to even use metal and glass roaches, since you could perfectly control the thickness yourself. Also I could pack it right to the very end, none of that twisted top thing, these looked like the tops of commercial cigarettes.
Otherwise they're not really worth the effort.
Far less effort for me, thats why I made it. I also have various techniques for preparing the solids/herbs, very efficient, and no heating. some people burn off half the goodness before it goes in! There is no need to heat, it is far quicker, to use a blade, and it comes off like a fine powder, no "rocks".

Some people are set against them for some reason! They're actually very good. Very fast too.
But smoke from a pipe, problem solved! Everyone will think you're sophisticated, like Sherlock Holmes

    cheers guys,

Yeah I think I'll buy one - the main reason I want one is that when I'm drunk I get terrible at rolling (and impatient). I really don't mind what I look like. If I'm around people who can roll better well I can let them - if I'm around people who can't they can hardly criticise.
Its not for lack of practice that I'm not great at rolling. Like I said I'm OK. The last festival I went to though trying to roll in the dark at night-time was very frustrating and time consuming.

Are you better buying one of the large ones or are the pocket size ones fine? In terms of sizes do the 70mm or the king size ones work better?

is a rolling mat just a mat to stop rolling materials spilling everywhere or is there some technique using one I'm unaware of?

the machines are just a fancified version of the mat concept basicly

Do many people who smoke rollies use two skins?
I dont think I could manage a cigarette two skins in length.

If I want to roll a long cigarette Ill just go with the kingsize or blue rizzla.
Oftentimes, those cigarettes are passed around in a group.
To the OP, just give it a bit of time and keep practising. Maybe get a friend to show you too.

Friend of mine uses one he swears by it
I used to smoke roll up and found hand rolling better for me as those machines were more a nuisance after a few drinks than what i could do with my fingers and thumbs :pac:

Anyhow buy one they're only about 3-5 euro and practice. If you like it keep it if not just leave it in there in case you ever get curious again?

There is a technique. Basically you roll your tobacco and filter in the mat until it is nice and round and well enough packed together - then you slip a paper in behind the tobacco, lick the gum and roll the side of the mat facing you, upwards. This rolls the paper round your cylinder of tobacco/filter, and sticks it with the wet gum.
