i just got a brand new macbook and the only things ive installed are bittorrent firefox and microsoft office,
ive also added 8 gigs worth of movies and downloaded the free apple loops for garage band that i think were only about 2 gigs

how come in finder it says that ive only got 106 gigs free out of 149

    is that right?

does all the stuff that comes with the computer really take up 30gigs?

if so is there anything big and unnecessary that i can delete?

thanks in advance for any help

Office takes up a few GB depending on which one you have.

Leopard should take up around 10 GB I think?

I use Disk Utility X for a graphical representation of what is taking up my space.

www.xslimmer.com could be of help for cleaning stuff out you don't want

Haven't a clue TBH, I just deleted what I didn't need - bits of iLife and all of iWork when the trial ran out, Garageband etc etc

I've a 250 GB hard drive but that's seen as 232.9 GB in Disk Utility so the usual 1,000 or 1,024 MB in a GB problem still lives! :pac:

The footprint of an OS X install would be closer to 10 GB, probably with all the printer drivers and other such extras installed.
