    Are you salaried?

If not, at least you will get paid for it.

Some employers see it as a benefit, the chance to earn more money at an increased rate.

If it's only for a few weeks, it might not be so bad. You will also increase your hoilday entitlement by doing increased hours so if it's for a few weeks you could end up with an extra days hols.

    Thank you wmpdd3,
We will be getting paid for it but no "overtime" rate as such just an extra days pay,
The problem is they basically have only told us today saying it's starting from the 16th (sunday) and that you have to work an extra day at the end of your working week for the next 2 weeks (shift work btw so an extra day is 10 hours)
and I just have major objections to the short notice given here.

    No, it is not legal.

However, and more importantly, you have a job, why take the risk?

You sure about this? Have been doing O/T with current employer for over 6 years and was not aware of them being under any obligation to add to hol. entitlement based on extra hours worked??

Have seen people being brought out on stretchers during a period of 12 weeks 'compulsory' overtime - no exaggeration. Employment law exists for a reason - employers shouldn't be allowed to bully their way through.

OP, only getting paid ordinary time for OT sounds a bit odd. Again, consult your contract and see what it states regarding OT. Normal hourly rate x 1.5 would be the most common OT rate.

I thought this was only for bank holidays. If you work a bank holiday, you can get double time and a day off, or treble time.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

There is no increase in holiday entitlements for doing overtime!

(If there was, I'd be doing well as I do approx 1,200 hours of OT annually).
