i have an acer laptop and have been trying to restore it to factory setting but i cant. im trying alt +F10 on startup but that brings up some other option which basically just starts up vista.

is there any other ways of doing it?

Maybe your recovery paritition is corrupt.

Can you give us more details?

    Make and model of laptop?
OS installed? I know you said Vista, but for some people Vista == Windows == DOS.
Basic hardware specs e.g. built in CDROM yay or nay, RAM, CPU etc.

Once we know this we can be of more use.

If your recovery partition doesn't work, you will need to use oem or retail windows disc to reinstall operating system. This will be more complicated than using recovery partition because after windows is installed you need to install drivers for laptop by yourself.
