Was playing tonight against a friend. I am not great, hence i got a shot a hole. He plays off +2 . He was 6 under for the 13 holes we played!! I mean, what do you do then? The more birdies he got, the more i got annoyed and was getting bogeys! Then the last few holes i might aswell have never played golf before.

My advise would be play your own game but to play in that company would be a joy as you get to see such a fine player up close and on form, you couldnt help but learn from him. Watch his tempo, preshot routine, how he lines up putts and his short game. Maybe not the answer you were looking for but its what I would be looking at if I was out of the game or in such company. You will have good days and bad days but play within yourself and try focus on the positives of your round even if its only one shot or putt you hit solid.

Oh i was laughing at first but then i got annoyed, not because he was plaing so well, but because i was deteriorating at a vast rate!
I do agree with you LOFT and i try and learn from him but there is only so much you can learn and the rest is skill. For example, on some long par 4s and par 5s he would be stitching his second shots where as i might be on the green but nowhere near close enough to make the birdie putt.

Hey thats a green in regulation, and a birdie putt. Ok it was a long attempt but its a birdie putt all the same. Focusing on the positives is such a huge part of the game. Get the head down and keep the practice up and from what I have learned is it will come together in time..you will improve if you put the practice in. Your +2 partner is without doubt talented but id bet he works hard to maintain that level of skill and it didnt happen overnight

Focusing on the positives is something i really need to work on! Once i hit one bad shot (like a silly shot: socket, duff, knock down), it takes awhile for me to forget it!
    I do love the game! But,its a love/hate relationship!:D

sometimes all you can do is admire and your mate played savage golf, what to take from it ?? for a start getting annoyed and beating yourself up doesnt help your game, thats a positive, learn from it.your friend is +2 so competing with him is very hard, chances are everyone else wont be as good so thats as bad as it gets....lol

It is all in your head. Some mind games should be operated. What are people's recommendations for psyching out an opponent?

I have a couple, namely chat to them, make them feel at ease and get them talking so thus thinking elsewhere from their game.
Other techniques include comments on their various shots, but said in an innocent critiquing tone; e.g. dog leg left, they hit their tee shot down the left side; "lay up then chip and putt, simple par". Try control their game
