    Hi,

What is the problem with the ongoing courses?
You can't learn self defense/martial arts on a 8 week course and if you plan to train it regularly you will learn the basics eventually.

I have trained in Kyokushinkai and in Budo Taijutsu and in both clubs after the basics the class was split into beginners and advanced class so students could practice according to their levels.

Having said that I do not know any of the D2 clubs (yet!!).

we have 3 beginners at the moment, but the classes are ongoing, there are no grading belts, but I encourage people to seek out championship title belts. We're in Dublin 8 Bridgefoot street, it takes me 15 minutes to walk there from Merrion Square.

feel free to try a few classes out. Next Class is Tuesday, we're away at West Coast Open this Sunday.

www.wildgeesema.com on Pearse St have a good selection of styles. Probably a good place to start. Don't know anything about them though.

The Sanshou looks really good. I train Tuesdays and Thursdays already. Do you train any other days? I know it says Saturday on the website, but I'd need to train 2-3 days to improve.

    Cheers

You may not be able to learn over an 8 week course it is however beneficial to start a course on par with other participants, often with ongoing courses they say they are suitable for beginners however when you commence training they expect you to understand moves, positions etc when clearly as a beginner you have no idea and those who are part-taking as 'ongoing' students have an advantage of previous knowledge. I just feel its a waste of time taking part a course of mixed ability the instructor will not take time to fully explain processes if half the class already know how to do it.

    Hey Athene

There is a beginners kickboxing 12 week course starting in Loughlinstown Leisure centre in September, I realise it isn't city centre but if you drive and are adamant you want a beginners course it may be for you. Its 2 mins off the n11 at loughlinstown

I understnad what you mean about starting with others at the same level and taking time to learn the basics.

    Best of luck.
