    Hi,
I didn't qualify for the BTEA last year 'cos my husband was moved from claiming illness benefit to Jobseekers Benefit 3 weeks before my college course started. He was almost 2 years on the Illness benefit, just 3-4 weeks shy of the qualifying 2 years for the BTEA.
As a result I also didn't receive the full top up of the maintenance grant as well as the BTEA and the cost of education allowance.

Made 1st year extremely tough especially commuting 25 miles to college as well as providing for 4 kids.....

Thought all would be well this year as he has now been a year on the Jobseekers benefit and that I would definitely be able to apply for what was denied me last year.....
This morn he receives a letter to fill out forms to move him next week to Jobseekers Allowance which has me worried now that again I won't receive the full top up of the maintenance grant.
Also have been informed by someone from the social welfare in Dublin that because I didn't qualify for the BTEA in 1st year, that I am automatically not entitled to it this year or any other year in fact......

Does anybody know if being moved after a year from one qualifying payment to another one (Jobseekers benefit to Jobseekers allowance) means a break in qualifying time period and also if it is true that after being denied the BTEA that you can't receive it in subsequent years?????

Would really appreciate any info anyone has......
My head is melted with the whole thing:confused:
