I dont think the IOC know yet.

I think it should be along the lines of the amateur tournaments with 2 rounds of qualifying strokeplay and then matchplay for 64 qualifiers.

Does anyone think it could impact on the Ryder cup if the pros play it? The olympics are held in July/August/September usually. Every 4 years the olympics and ryder cup will be held possibly within a few weeks of each other. The majority of the players in contention for the Ryder cup teams will most likely be in contention for the olympics. Could the ryder cup compete with the stature of the olympics? Also it is bound to clash at some stage with some of the majors, either the PGA or the Open.

I think it probably should be played between amateurs however I would imagine a big draw for getting golf as an olympic sport would be the fact that Tiger would be able to play so I'd expect the Pro's to be involved.

The only other way I could see it played is if it was instead of the World Cup where 2 players from each country play together in different formats over a couple of days.

Lots of questions to be answered!
