    I did a level 7 course ( ordinary degree) and Did one semester level 8 ( honours degree). Im about to start a new level 8 course.The college have said that I will have to pay a half year of tuition fees. Ive never recieved a grant before .Some people have told me i may be entitled to maintence after january others have said im not entilted to anything. Can anyone help me?

    Yes, if you're eligible for everything but have to 'repeat' the first semester you will be eligible for a grant for the second semester onwards. Not sure how this happens with the Council/VEC but give them a call now (since the grant line may not be answered in January!).

    Make sure to get a name and if possible something in writing that your grant will start in the new year when you submit your application.

    I should add that im 22 and left college in 07.

    Whats the difference between a maintence grant and the higher education grants if there are any differences.

    Unfortunately you don't have a break of 5 years from when you dropped out as detailed in that link, so you wouldn't be eligible.
    Note: If you previously attempted an approved Honours Degree course but did not successfully complete it and are now, following a break of at least five years, returning to pursue an approved course at the same level in 2009/10, you are still considered eligible to apply for a grant.
