    Hey guys,

Following on from the great success of the last Invitational Competition we hosted, we're excited to announce the date for the next fun, friendly and challenging fundraiser!

The date we've set aside is Saturday, September 19th and we're hoping for the same format as May - 3 short, tough workouts that'll separate the fit from the less fit :P

If you're interested in taking part, or want to know more, you can contact me (info at crossfit dot ie / 086-8151092) or Tom (tom at crossfit dot ie/086-6077771).

Even if you've never trained in CrossFit, this is a great opportunity for you to try a whole new way of working out, talk with Ireland's fittest and strongest, have great craic with a whole bunch of great people to boot.

We'll reveal more details as we get closer, but in the meantime, get training!

    Colm

from my experience at the last one if you have even the remotest interest in fitness/weights/getting in amazing shape you MUST just show up. You would not even need to compete.

I found the comradery at the last one brilliant and there were lots of people there just to soak up the atmosphere and get tips on how people get strong, ripped and fit.

Now i am not brining flapjacks for everyone this time as i expect its going to be just a little bit busier this time round

So what is the agenda? Are we allowed to ask that or are they sealed in an envelope until the day? Just wondering what the workouts are.

Are the workouts from the last invitational posted anywhere...i.e. I am too lazy to read through page after page of posts trying to find it...so if someone knows where they're posted then let me know.

Best advice I can give people heading over is to do Crossfit or Crossfit Style workouts between now and coming up . We would be delighted to have you guys up to go through some workouts and have a chat.

Anyone that wants to come up and do a few workouts just get in touch with me or Colm. We are hoping to make this one huge. Everyone really had a great time at the last one and plenty of work done, but more importantly lots of laughs.

    @ Will

The workouts are told to everyone on the day, that way nobody can train for specific workouts

So they really are top secret and kept in an envelope until the day...I'm cool with that.

I just thought seeing what the format was for the last one might give me an idea of what it is all about.

Wow! Looks like interest in this bad boy is really growing now.

    Will,

Here's the post detailing the workouts: http://crossfit.ie/2009/05/07/thur-may-7th/

And here's the post of results: http://crossfit.ie/2009/05/09/sat-may-9th/

We'll have some slight format/scoring changes for this one but most likely 3 workouts. If anyone has any suggestions for workouts they think would be good for the day please feel free to send them on to info at crossfit dot ie

    Linda , Linda , Linda , Linda!!!!

Linda is a great one for the comp but too equipment dependent - i think more exercises that require body weight lifts are good as they make it quite even e.g. deadlifts, chins, press ups, dips etc cindy it a great example or barbara.

Need more workouts that last more than 5mins as the shorter ones favour some people

i know , its the only thing i'd be decently competetive on tho!!:o

The longer workouts favout your fit SOB's ;)

Something mad like a heavy WOD as the first one 15-12-9 1.5x bodyweight deadlift maybe, a medium Amy-esque one second and a 20 minute Cindy for rounds as the finisher would work really well imo.

A long one right at the end to seperate the men from the boys and keep the final fight for the victory exciting like!!

I'm heavily influenced by this article from Kelly Starrett, who runs San Francisco CrossFit, and I've found that heavy things generally separate the good from great athletes.

However, we'll have a host of different workouts on the day so get working on your weaknesses guys.

Thanks for the support so far,
    Colm

Can't seem to edit my original post to fix the dates.

    Anyway,

We're created a dedicated section on our site to the Invitational. Check it out: http://www.crossfit.ie/invitational-2/

We've also online registration and athlete profiles to add to the excitement/fun of it all.

Less than 4 weeks to go!

I have a competition a couple of weeks afterwards so I don't think I'll be able to compete.

I know it's more than enough time to recover but I won't be able to do any prep beforehand :o

I'll still trying and get up there to have a gander at the proceedings though, it was a brilliant day last time. Besides, given that you're my fellow Mod I'm dedicated to supporting Team BossArky :D

    Hey guys,

Glad there's a bit of international interest in this one. We've Davie Easton coming from CrossFit Central Scotland, and Scott Jenkins, who competed at the European Qualifiers for the CrossFit Games.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in this, please pass on the details.

If you're a boardsie who's debating whether you should come along, do it! Even if you're not the fittest in the land, there's a lot to be said by training/competing alongside people better than you. It helps expand your horizons as to what's possible/achievable, it's nice to put faces to the names on these boards, and get advise on your training and diet.

If you were at the last comp, and haven't had a chance to talk to me or Tom, we'd love to hear feedback about how to make things run smoother or make the day better for everyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

    Hey guys,

Just a friendly bump of this thread.

We've a whole heap of athletes entering the competition this time, a few names from boards (Transform and BossArky), a few UK CrossFit Games compeititors (Will Walshe, Scott Jenkins) and a few unknowns as well thrown into the mix.

We've still spots open for people who want to give it a shot, and it'd be great if some of the female posters here would enter. Sue and Dee, two of our 'girlie competitors' (their term, not mine!) are real friendly, helpful gals so there's no need to feel intimidated if you want to give it a bash on the day.

I can reveal the format of the day from the super secret folder
    • Registration at 9am so all athletes can get to know the place, and get ready/warmed up
    • Three Workouts - to be revealed next Thursday
    • The day should be wrapped up by 5pm at the latest
    • One workout will take place completely outdoors, so be prepared for rain or shine!
    • Tom will be looking to make as many jokes as he can at my expense!

For anyone who's interested in taking part as an official, we'll have a judges meeting where we'll go over the standards of movement for the competitors.

[Serious]We need to make sure everyone is judged to the same standards. While we want to have great craic and a fun day, it's important that each competitor is judged to the same standards so the day is fair. It's not a nice feeling telling someone their rep didn't count when they tried their hardest, but it's the only way we can have an equitable competition[/Serious]

Thanks to everyone for your support so far. Should be a great day for all spectators, officials and competitors!

    what!!!!!!!!!!

Circuit traiing - crossfit could not be anything further than bloody circuit training!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,394 ✭✭✭Transform

saturday might be a little something like this - which looks nothing like circuit training!

yes i know - fittest person on the planet is a big question but still competition is great and lets be honest you must be bored of doing your bench press and biceps curls by now? Please test your self just once.

I'm gonna say it........ do they get tested at the Crossfit games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

    Is this circuit training tough?

What we do couldn't be considered circuit training, in the traditional understanding of the word.

If you'd like, you could pop down to us some evening this week and we could show you a class and what we do. Really, I think with CrossFit you have to experience to see the difference.

I'm gonna say it........ do they get tested at the Crossfit games?

    http://games2009.crossfit.com/thegames/games-09-steroid-testing.html

Although we didn't hear much of what went on over the course of the games. The information provided was fairly stetchy throughout, I don't think the media team delivered tbh.

We won't be testing at ours...this time.

Apparently each competitor had to p!ss into a cup at some point of their choosing over the weekend. It seems to have been more for show and for pleasing sponsors than anything else.

Everyone who's already registered for the Invitational should have a message sitting in their inbox at the moment from us. Everyone who's still sitting on the fence, you can still register for what promises to be a great day.

We've some interesting workouts planned (I tested them yesterday myself) so it should be a fun day!

So it is just myself and Transform representing boards.ie then? Come on, some others must be interesting in taking part?

Colm, I guess you won't mind me using liquid chalk & my own skipping rope (if there is some type of skipping)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

    Boss,

Seems only you and Transform are interested, although there's a few names that have registered that I've never heard of, so dark horses galore.

Anyone else willing to put forth an effort?

(Workouts will be revealed tomorrow, then I'll answer any questions regarding them)

I'd be up for it but have come down with a cold this week, so am not at the height of my powers. Had to have some (wisdom) teeth removed last week and think it put the immune system under strain!

Will put the next one in my calendar - prob plan to have one earlyish next year Colm? Sounds like the last one went brilliant and this next one should be the same.
