new cid holders

    hi there,
I'm one of the lucky ones to get a cid this year. However, there is a lot of unhappiness in my school this year with people on reduced hours and those losing their jobs. Now I signed a form in May saying that i was the holder of a cid of 18hours or more agreeing to teach 22 hours. That is all I signed though. My principal has just phoned me saying I had full hours and said I had to sign a form ( a new form this year) for salaries. Is there anyone newly CID or knows of anyone who is . What forms exactly have to be signed? Just afraid I may not have signed the correct forms?! Also afraid there may have been changes.
By the way, hello to everyone, I'm new here!!

There are teachers waiting to hear if they will get CIDs in our school at the moment who would be in the same situation, it's probably nothing too serious, probably just a form which will state that you are being paid 22 hours from now on and that your hours won't vary like it does from year to year for part time teachers.

    thanks.
I think that is what it is as well, but I won't know til I sign it. It is such a vague, grey area yet so vitally important. You place alot of trust in the principal etc.

It must be a great relief to have that bit of security when so many others are losing hours. There are a lot of people watching with interest in my school to see how the CID 18/22 hours pans out.

Well done Biscuit first of all!

This is something that I heard at union meetings a few months back, interesting to see it in action. The DES doesn't want people on 18 hour contracts/CIDs. Principals are being told to timetable these teachers and everybody up to 22 hours. It's cheaper for the DES and they can reduce the number of other part-time contracts.

    thanks!
yes, I feel one of the lucky ones alright. However, I have been teaching for 12 years and have been around the block so it has been a while coming. I know in the current climate, it is a godsend. yes, I had to sign that form to say that I would work 22 hours but what can you do? I know that are a lot of unhappy people who were waiting on contract number 4 and told there is nothing for them

Can I just ask a question regarding cid as its caused a lot of debate in our school(which is vec). I was made cid at the end of 08 but according to some, cid is not 100% safe and not the same as permanancy. If numbers go down in a school, you can lose your job. I never really passed much remarks of this hearsay until I was in school wednesday on the day of results. The principal was commenting on the interviews held in the vec that week. He'd been on panels all week and remarked at how sad it was to see experienced teachers travelling from all over ireland just for a maternity leave. His words were "people who thought their jobs were safe and secure, cid is a dangerous one" This really unnerved me and i'm just wondering what your thoughts are or if any knows anything????

    CID = permanent
principal = ignorant of labour law

Two equations of the education system.

As far as I know and I'm open to correction, you have a permanent 14 hour contract. Those 14 hours will always be yours. The remaining hours can go up or down depending on the needs of the school but are not permanent.

As far as I'm aware CID means you're permanent i.e. if the school has hours for your subject they have to go to you. However, if you're CID and your school no longer has those hours (a) your hours get reduced to what the school has to offer (b) if no hours at all, you lose your job!
I'm open to correction on that!

By the way, is Temporary Whole Time gone or is this the new Regular Part Time - confused

This is not the case. If you are CID then you are permanent. Therefore, just like the comparable permanent teachers if the school becomes over quota then you remain in your position. This is the reason why the department wants to introduce cross-sectoral redeployment.

If you are on a fixed-term contract and the school loses hours then you may well lose your job.
