    Hi all,
I am almost 16 going into 3rd year in secondary school & I am thinking a bit about what I want to do. I was just wondering what are the requirements of the top photography colleges, how many points do you need ect. I really like photography among other things so I am keeping my options open. I just want to have an idea of the aims I need, if I choose to do photography course.

    Answers are much appreciated,
    Thanks

Google wouldn't really be a hard thing to use,It'll give you all the info needed and more, and contact details for the tutors to ask further questions more so that what most of us can answers

Off the top of my head IADT DIT And GCD all run photography courses,I'm not going to go into details cause i'm also sure it's answered here

Don't think about it too much if you're going into 3rd year, concentrate on your Junior Cert.

If you're going to do transition year, you'll have plenty of chance to scout around, do open days, and the possibility of work experience in a photographers :)

Most courses are heavily dependant on portfolios, so be sure to keep snapping away.

if you want to cut pictures and join them up with other pictures to make one large picture then you need a collage, if you want to go somewhere to learn art and photography formally them you need a college ;)

no, seriously, I agree with Fajitas, stay focused on the JC.

Your main option would be DIT in Temple Bar, Dun Laoighre IADT and Griffith College. A friend of mine did the 3 year Media course in Colaiste Dhuillage on the northside of the city and went on to Wolverhapmton into the final year there to get his degree in photography.

Like everyone said, keep snapping away to build up a portfolio of the next few years. Your portfolio get marked out of 600 points and if they like your portfolio and you meet the minimum requirements for course entry regarding LC results you should be accepted. There is no harm in applying to do a PLC course in photography to help build your portfolio up in case you aren't successful first time around. It means you're still learning about photography and have a better portfolio second time around.
